Padre's Page - August 5

Dear Friends, here’s what’s up this week:

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

Last weekend several hundred of our volunteers joined us for our festive annual Volunteer Appreciation Cookout, which is just a small token of our thanks for all those who serve our parish’s mission in different ways.  What are you doing for your parish?  What are you doing to serve our mission of bringing the joy of the Gospel to the heart of Arlington?  Get involved by checking our SHARE brochures at our church entrances, or check out our website under the SERVE menu.

REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION & YOUTH MINISTRY…

…is now open.  Parents, please register all your children and teens for our dynamic programs of ongoing formation in our faith.  You can do so easily online:  visit our website under the LEARN menu.

SUMMERTIME, AND THE LIVING IS EASY…

Summer often means a slower pace of life, more recreation and vacation–but be sure not to take a vacation from your vocation to be saint!  Encountering the Lord through daily prayer, Sunday Mass and frequent Confession should always remain the bases of our spiritual lives.  When traveling, find local Mass and Confession times using this convenient website:  masstimes.org

Enjoy the Summer, and remember to put Jesus first!

SPEAKING OF VACATION…

I’m away this weekend for some R&R in old colonial Quebec City, Canada, which has been on my bucket list for a while.  (Incidentally, Planty is a French Canadian name, and the Duplanty’s–the original name–emigrated to “New France” way back in the 1600’s–but I’m not sure I’ll run into any as I don’t think any remain there with that name…).

NEW SIGNS

You probably noticed new signs on our buildings:  these large signs, illuminated at night, will make more clear to people who we are, what we are, where we are–they are an investment in evangelization!  “Many began to believe in his name when they saw the signs,” haha!  (Jn 2:23)

I remain, your servant in Christ Jesus,

Father Don
