Make Your VOICE Heard on Local Issues
St. Charles is joining with 41 other faith institutions in the area to become part of VOICE (Virginians Organized for Community Engagement). VOICE promotes issues important to northern Virginians and is a part of the Industrial Areas Foundation family, which has organized successful community projects in more than 60 cities. Right now, VOICE is choosing its agenda, but we need to hear from you about the issues important to North Virginians. US Papal Visit
See the Pope in DC: Popemobile RoutesApril 16 - About noon - Holy Father leaves White House meeting President Bush at via East Executive Ave., travels west on Pennsylvania Ave. past Washington Circle, and then north on Rock Creek Parkway before exiting at Massachusetts Ave. for his 81st birthday lunch at the papal nunciature on Observatory Circle.
April 16 - 5:15 p.m. - Departs US Conference of Catholic Bishops headquarters at 3211 Fourth St. NE and heads north on Fourth St. to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to meet with 350 bishops. You can line route along the west side of Fourth Street and on Michigan Avenue near the Basilica, but the Basilica grounds are by ticket only.
April 17 - papal Mass at Nationals Park by ticket only
April 17 - About 6:15 p.m. - departs campus of The Catholic University of America through the south side of campus, north along the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, then north on Harewood Road to the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center where he will meet with representatives of other religions. Viewing along this route is by ticket primarily for the Catholic University community.

Sun., March 30 - Do not park in Truland Building lot for Mass because a special GMU event is taking place. Parking resumes there the following Sunday.
Who Should Receive Our Parish's Tithes?
St. Charles usually gives away 10 percent of the first collection at Mass. Do you know of a worthy charity we should consider as a recipient? We accept applications twice a year through March 31 and September. Learn more about the tithing application process.
Consignment Sale Raises More Than $1,000.00 for BHI
The Moms Ministry consignment sales raised $1,010 for Borromeo Housing after all consignors were paid their share of the proceeds. The funds will help support a residential program for homeless adolescent mothers and their children.

St. Charles will hold a lottery to distribute tickets to the Papal Mass. Forms are available at the Parish Office and after all Masses the weekend of March 1-2, 2008. The lottery closes at 9 PM on Wednesday, March 5. - You must drop off the forms in person. - One entry per person. Note: the parish does not know at this time how many tickets will be made available to us.
Parishioner Edelia Miller Passed Away
The funeral service for St. Charles parishioner Edelia Miller is Thursday, March 13, at 10:30 AM in the Chapel. Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, Emmett, and four children, all of whom graduated from St. Charles: Alice, Sandy, Emmett Jr., and Raymond.

Dorothy Celich Passed Away
Former St. Charles parishioner, Dorothy Celich, recently died at a rehabilitation center in Reston. Please remember her in your prayers.
Sunday Parking Available at Truland Building, But Not George Mason Law School
During weekend Masses, you may park in the Truland Building lots at the corner of Washington Blvd and Kirkwood Drive (3300 Washington Blvd). Enter the surface lot from Kirkwood Drive or underground parking from Washington Blvd.
Note: The Arlington campus of George Mason University has begun construction on the surface lot that previously was available to St. Charles Mass-goers on Sunday. You are no longer allowed to park there on Sundays.

Sunday Parking No Longer Permitted at George Mason Law School
The Arlington campus of George Mason University has begun construction on the surface lot that previously was available to St. Charles Mass-goers on Sunday. You are no longer allowed to park there on Sundays.
Memorial Mass for Sedfrey Ordoñez on Jan. 19
Sedfrey Ordoñez, father of Cristina Hernandez and grandfather of Ramon and David Hernandez, died recently at his home in the Philippines. He was a lawyer who served as ambassador to the U.N. and was a crusader for human rights, serving a Chairman on the Commission of Human Rights. His memorial Mass is Saturday, January 19 at 11 AM here at St. Charles.
Camille Burruto's Sister Died
Katie Spasaro, the sister of long-time St. Charles volunteer Camille Burruto, died in Florida. Although Katie was ill for an extended time, her death was unexpected. Her funeral will be held at Holy Name Church in Washington, DC, with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Specific dates are not yet known, but will be posted here once available.
