• September 11 Remembered
  Fr. Creedon delivered the invocation before the U.S. House of Representatives on September 11, 2001, shortly before the emergency evacuation. The Arlington Catholic Herald also described the event and so does the US Bishops' site (see 'Washington DC' section partway down the page).
  
  In 2002, our parish participated in a 9/11 interfaith service.

  Over the weekend of July 30 we raised $6,900 for our godchildren and $3,570 for the lunch program. We now have 335 sponsorships paid for and $15,470 on hand to support next year's lunch program. A nice start, but more help is needed so sign up today.

  Parishioner Cecily Orr-Nuckols died Saturday, July 22, of cancer.
  Visitations: Advent Funeral Home, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church (703-241-7402) on Tuesday, July 25, from 2 - 4 PM and from 7 - 9 PM.
  Funeral Mass: St. Charles Church at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, July 26. A reception will be held in Benedict Hall following the Mass.
  Donations: Cecily has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to Heifer International.

• Dr. John Portaria Died July 21
  John Portaria, a parishioner who has resided in Manor Care Nursing Home for the past several years, passed away. His Funeral Mass is in the chapel at St. Charles on July 26 at 11 AM. (There is no wake.)

• Julio Cesar Sosa Died
  Julio Cesar Sosa, one of the lead catechists of the St. Charles Latino community, died suddenly on Monday evening, July 3 at age 38. He was recognized at Mass on Sunday, July 2, for his role in preparing four adult candidates for Confirmation.
  Funeral Arrangements:
  Murphy's Funeral Home (Wilson Blvd.) on Sunday, July 9, from 6 to 8 PM. The funeral Mass will be on Monday, July 10 at 5 PM, followed by a reception in Benedict Hall.

  Please pray for the repose of his soul and for comfort and consolation of his three brothers: Jaime, Tony and Dimas, who live here; and for his parents in El Salvador. We are also looking for donations to pay for sending his body home to his family in El Salvador; make your check payable to St. Charles and note “Julio Cesar” in the memo line.

• New Altar Server Training Announced
  Fr. Creedon consulted with the parish council and determined that altar service by girls at St. Charles will benefit the parish. He has sent a letter to the bishop informing him of his decision and we await the bishop's acknowledgement. We plan to schedule two training sessions in the sacristy initially, and will schedule more as the need arises.
  
  Training Dates:
  - Sunday, April 9 from 4:30 - 5:45 PM
  -Tuesday, April 11 from 3 - 4:15 PM
  The Tuesday date and time has been selected primarily to make it easier for students at St. Charles School to attend the training. However, the training is open to any student. Following the initial training session, servers will be assigned to serve with an experienced server at Saturday/Sunday Masses.
