St. Charles Closes When Arlington County Events Are Canceled for Snow
How can you tell if St. Charles is open when there's snow? If Arlington Co. cancels events then St. Charles closes as well and scheduled parish events -- other than Mass -- will not take place in that situation. (In the event of a two-hour delay, morning meetings are canceled.)

Sat., Feb. 6 - CHANGE: Peace Symposium scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6 in Benedict Hall has been RESCHEDULED to Feb. 20.

All religious education activities at St. Charles are canceled for Sunday, February 7. These activities include Atrium, grade-based relig. education (morning and afternoon sessions), children's initiation, confirmation, WAY and On the Way.

Born in Quito, Ecuador, and receiving his medical degree there, he was a physician's assistant at several local hospitals: Columbia Hospial for Women, Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital, Fair Oaks Hospital and Virginia Hospital Center. He is survived by his wife Margarita, his three daughters Raquel, Maria, and Natalie, and his grandson Edward.

Earthquake in Haiti: Fr. Gerry and Parish Missions Safe
Here's an update on the earthquake in Haiti in response to the questions from many parishioners.

  • Fr. Gerry confirmed he is safe. He was in Santo Domingo at the time of the quake, which was not affected. Due to the chaos on Hispaniola, his return trip has been delayed for a few days.
  • Our missions in Haiti and the Dominican Republic are also safe. The Haiti sister parishes are in the southwest peninsula, a separate region of the country. The damage, while severe, appears to be concentrated in and around the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Simbang Gabi - 5 AM daily Mass leading up to Christmas (70-100 people have attended each Mass so far)
"SAFETY FIRST! We love Misa de Gallo, but it would be against what we hold sacred if we risk life or limb or health for the dawn Masses. Some of us are fortunate in that we live close enough to walk slowly or drive carefully to the masses. That' s why the Mass will always happen. But there are those who live close by who still decide in favor of caution. So do not worry if you cannot make Misa de Gallo for a couple of days. This community is more than that. Be safe."    --Simbang Gabi community

Cancelled: Young Adults Christmas party after the 6 PM Mass on Sunday, December 20.

Cancelled: All grade-based Religious Education and Atrium programs for Sunday, December 20. This includes dismissal for Christian Initiation of Children at the 11 AM Mass. Religious Education classes resume January 3.

St. Charles Helps Found VOICE
St. Charles is a founding member of Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement (VOICE). Although still in its early stages of development, VOICE has already had a significant impact in promoting social justice and aiding needy residents of Northern Virginia. Scores of parishioners have joined Fr. Creedon in working to establish VOICE as an effective champion of Gospel values in the four regional jurisdictions: Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William Counties and the City of Alexandria. Learn how to participate in future VOICE actions on the VOICE site.
