9. What would you like to see added to the site or changed?
Your comments... The Web Team's response
  • I really really wish we could register for the Parish online. I have been attending mass for over 5 years -- and a CCD teacher there for 5 years -- and I still haven't made it into the Parish office to register. I never seem to remember when I'm on site.
  • Im a new parisioner at St Charles and I would like to have been able to register on line, but that is not an option, so I will do it in the church office Sunday.
  • registering on web site
  • Add parish registration forms to be filled out and brought in.
This request tends to come up each year. Our parish leadership wants prospective parishioners to register only in person at the parish office and does not want the forms available online for downloading. As a compromise, the Web Team lists the information needed to register when you come to do so in person.
  • i wish the other priests had pictures too because I don't know what they look like.
  • Pictures of the workers in the rectory and the front desk
  • Given that we have new priests in residence from time to time, it would be great to add digital photos to the clergy page to help parishioners become familiar with our associate pastors, priests in residence, etc.... possibly even photos of key lay folks/parish council, etc....
  • Parish office staff and priests. Out of date. Update new members. Remove those who have left. Need pictures of each of staff and of priests. Need a brief commentary on each (when start work, how long at St Charles, hobbies...)

Clergy and staff photos are now on the staff page.
  • Would like to see a blurb on the home page that links to the Sacrament of Marriage, i.e., Getting married in the church?
We changed the main navigation category "Faith" to "Faith & Sacraments" so that a quick link to marriage resources (and the other sacraments) is available on the home page and all other pages. Our research with engaged and recently married parishioners indicated that "sacraments" was obvious enough link to lead to marriage. "Sacraments" also let us cover "vocations" since we've received requests for making that link prominent as well.
  • the volunteer section needs to be updated.
  • information on volunteer opportunities for music ministers, e.g., volunteer cantors, instrumentalists

At the time of the survey, it wasn't clear that the Volunteer page was updated in conjunction with the volunteer e-newsletter (every other month or so). We added an explanation to that effect at the top.

See the ministry pages for information about their needs.

  • directions to the church need to be reviewed. when you click on the mapquest link it shows a different state and church.
The problem link on the map page has been fixed. (It was actually the Google Maps link and not Mapquest, but either way we're pleased that it was brought to our attention.)
  • We have to work to get the various "private" calendars integrated into a single information base, and to avoid conflicts among events. but you already know this, and we parish council folks must help this happen.
The parish calendar is now managed centrally for both the school and the church. In addition, the parish staff publishes a list of top highlights for the month.
  • was just looking on information regarding Ascension Thursday and whether or not it was a Holy Day of Obligation. I can't find a peep about this feast anywhere on the site. To be fair, I couldn't find the info I need on the Diocesan website, the Arlington Catholic Herald website or the Catholic Encyclopedia website either... :-(
This is a serious oversight. Part of the process to develop a monthly list of highlights identified by parish leadership now includes identifying Holy Days so that this information will be widely available ahead of time.
  • Since there is no missal with the prayers of the Mass (it is more a hymnal) could you publish the readings for the Mass?
We've made the link more prominent on our Faith page to the daily readings and reflections resources. The bulletin also lists the readings for the week; the online version includes a link to the US Bishops' daily readings.
  • Color of the vestments for the upcoming Sunday
We haven't found a good online link to this information, such as to add to our celebrant's schedule.
  • I particularly like the photos of parish events. It would be nice if coverage could be expanded. Some of the montages are quite creative, you are obviously putting a lot of effort into this.
  • More photos! More photo links! More photo event transcriptions (articles), and accompanying photos. I really like photos of activities of all kinds at St Charles Borromeo parish!
We'd love to have more photos on the site, but are dependent upon the ones sent to us by volunteers.
  • Can you make a form for BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS that is set up like this survey?
  • 1 Is there any way to eliminate the extra step of emailing someone when you want to reserve a room and have it placed on the calendar? Can that step be automated?
You can email the bulletin form and the calendar form to the parish office, which then becomes part of the staff's process for handling this information, but a fully automated process isn't available.
  • I would also be interested in a section specifically geared for children/families
  • Information for new parishioners about activities for kids displayed in a more prominent location.
Kid-specific ministries are listed in the ministry section. The occasional standalone events for kids, such as during Advent or Lent, are promoted on the homepage and in the parish highlights. At this point, we don't have a lot of content for children on the site and therefore don't promote it.
  • Homily summaries for the other priests besides Fr. Creedon
  • I really enjoy reading Father Creedon's homilies. I would love to see other priests' homilies on the web site as well - every priest at St. Charles has a lot to offer to our community.
  • With iPods becoming so popular, would it be possible to have Fr. Creedon's homilies made into podcasts to download from the site?
Fr. Charles has agreed to have the audio of his homilies posted online, but our volunteer recruitment efforts haven't identifed anyone to help with this process; the other parish priests have declined at this time to have their homilies online.
  • Eucharistic Minister schedule.
  • Posting the Eucharistic minister schedule would be helpful
We've had some challenges keeping the EM schedule up to date. Later in 2006, we plan on implementing new software that will allow "non-programmers" to make updates to pages, such as these special calendars, using a simple process similar to using a Web-based email program.

General comments:

  • 1 I think the web-site is fantastic! It contains a great deal of information... even the ability to download forms. I know a lot of work goes into maintaining a website and you guys do a great job of that. We also look forward to the humorous write-up about the web-site in the bulletin each week. Keep up the good work!
