Fr. Durkin Passed Away on Saturday, May 31, 2003
Father Joseph Durkin, 100, whose life's work serves and will continue to serve as an inspiration to students, thinkers, and people of faith, passed away Saturday at about 11:10 PM. He worked with the poor, with Arlington jail inmates, Alzheimer's
patients, and many others, while writing and teaching history at Georgetown.

Fr. Durkin stood up briefly once after applause and explained that he was simply "madly in love with Jesus Christ," in a soft but assured voice. It was such love that kept him able to work, to write, and to care with such compassion over the decades.

Wake and Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, June 5, from 2-7 PM at Dahlgren Chapel at Georgetown followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church at 7:30 PM at Holy Trinity.
Burial Service: Friday, June 6 at 9 AM in Dahlgren Chapel with interment in the Jesuit Cemetery at Georgetown.
