On August 20, 2002, Gretta Creedon passed away after suffering a massive stroke several days earlier. She was the mother of St. Charles's pastor, Fr. Gerry Creedon. He was with his mother in Ireland when her stroke took place, but later returned to Arlington. She died as he was preparing to fly back to be with her.
A Gretta Creedon fund is now available with proceeds going to the St. Charles Parish Center, as explained below and in the July 25 bulletin. Her memorial Mass at St. Charles is Friday, September 27 at 8 PM.
Over the years, parishioners got to know more about Fr. Creedon's mother through the stories about her he shared, such as in the following examples:
Dear Friends of St. Charles,
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Parish Community Center at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church has been postponed due to the death of Gretta Creedon, mother of our Pastor, Father Gerry Creedon.
The new dates are:
Wednesday, September 4, 2002 with the St. Charles School children following the 9.00 a.m. School Mass. All are welcome.
Saturday, September 7, 2002. The parish ceremony will take place at 6.00 p.m. (following the 5.00 p.m. Mass) at the corner of N. Fairfax Drive and N. Kirkwood Road. Light refreshments will be served in the School Cafeteria immediately following.
We appreciate your understanding the necessity to change these dates so that our Pastor can be with us as we continue to "Build the Spirit" at St. Charles. We hope you will be able to join us.
Please keep the Creedon family in your prayers. A fund has been established in Gretta Creedon's name toward the Parish Center.
Sincerely,
Jane McCarthy
