Media Ministry Meeting Minutes

11/15/07, 1st Meeting

Present: MaryAnn Kurzak Ackerman, Marty Kiefaber, Mark Alves, Marvin Mayorga, Fr. Clement Aapengnuo, Mary Beth Campfield, Marisa Vertrees. Absent: Rebecca Kimball

For our first meeting we introduced ourselves and identified the two purposes of this ministry:

1. Identifying ways of using emerging technology as tools of evangelization.
2. Identifying how we can use available technology to document and promote St. Charles' activities.

To do this, we identified a list of what we would like to do, what services we would like to provide, here at St. Charles. We then went from this list to identifying what types of equipment we need to accomplish our goals. We then outlined a timeline of when we would like to begin, identifying three events in the next few months that the media ministry could record.

WHAT WE WISH TO PROVIDE

• a/v documentation of parish events. Ie, Cinco de Mayo, Carnivale, 1st Communions, Oktoberfest
• a/v presentations of St. Charles ministries, both online and in hardcopy
• virtual tour of St. Charles facilities
• create a resource center. Could include multimedia resources like documentaries on Mother Theresa, or from CRS, as well as multimedia resources on St. Charles
• recordings and podcasts of forums, homilies, etc.
• help to create and promote parishioner generated content

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

• mac laptop, ideally ($1500-$2000)
  • video editing software
  • audio editing software
  • DVD burning software
• video editing equipment (unsure)
• portable mixer (unsure)
• video camera(s) ($500-$600 each)
• wireless mic(s) ($150 each)
• blank media, label, cases. (as needed. $100 to start)
• stock music, footage and pictures (as needed. $200 to start)
• green/blue screen ($200)
• lighting (available)
• legal/copyright counsel (unsure)
• release forms
• If We Host: increased server capacity. (unsure-Mark will check on)
  

EVENTS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE

• Praise and Worship speaker, Dec. 6, 2007
• Children's Christmas Pageant, Dec. 23, 2007
• January 2008 Conversation with Creedon, Date uncertain

These are all events that could be recorded and publicized by the Media Ministry.

Additional notes:
Mark Alves has tried out a USB microphone and said it was easy to use and very clear. The cost was around $25, and he'd like this added to our wish list.

Fr. Clement spoke with Arlington Independent Media, and they have almost all of the equipment we would need available for rentals at the cost of $15 a day. Even better, if he volunteers there 5 hours a week, we can rent the equipment for free. They also offer classes in media there that are open to all. I'm not sure of their price, but we will look into this and let people know when their classes are offered and for how much.
