Sabbath: Parishioner Reflections on the Jubilee Each of us...must find our own way to "rest with God."
God had completed the awesome job of creating the world, and then he rested on the seventh day, the Sabbath. What a perfect example for us. Living in today’s world is very time consuming. The daily routine is overwhelming, filled with obligations and commitments. Our life can become very self-centered instead of God-centered. God has given us so many gifts. In return, we can give him the gift of our time and ourselves. God loves us and wants to be part of our ordinary life, but we need to invite him into our home. Each one of us is unique and must find our own way to "rest with God." Here are a few suggestions. Every morning, ask God to bless your day and, in the evening, reflect upon his presence throughout your day. Find a quiet place, close your eyes, relax, empty your busy mind, just be still and be with God. Read a bible passage and reflect upon it. What is God saying to me? Take a walk and absorb the wonder of his creation. Thank Him for the gift of nature. Our "seventh day" can be spent with God in many different ways. Some days we will only have time for five minutes and other days half an hour or more. Several times a year it can be a day of recollection or a weekend retreat. God is always waiting for us to rest with him. It is up to us to make the time to be with him to appreciate the wonder of his creation, and to open ourselves to his loving healing presence.
