Sabbath: Suggested Actions for the Jubilee

Sabbath Actions

sabbath

  • Take a few minutes today to do something that puts you at "the feet of the Lord," open to His love reflected in a loved one, nature, music, or simply a quiet, private moment.
  • Try to incorporate some aspect of the Sabbath of your youth into your Sunday schedule, such as dinner with friends, time for rest and reflection, or activities for personal enrichment. Take the time to make Sunday a day of Sabbath, not merely one more day in a busy week.
  • Offer your daily works to God for his honor and glory.
  • Take some time to sit with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Our neighboring church, St. Agnes, has 24-hour perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in a small chapel at the parish center (703/525-1166).
  • Plan to make a retreat this Jubilee year.
  • Make time to read the Scriptures.
  • Quiet your mind by writing a letter to God. Read it aloud, then sit and rest in His presence.
  • Find a porch or steps to a busy building. Sit and spend 5 minutes praying for all the people who pass by. Pray that God’s rest and peace invade their busy-ness. Thank God for your awareness of Him.
