Justice: Parishioner Reflections on the Jubilee

Justice

Six billion people occupy the planet
One billion lack nutrition.
When they eat, they may eat yucca
And lack protein.
Many are lucky to eat once each day.

The gap between the richest and the poorest Virginians
Increased by 18% since 1986.
Rather than escape poverty
Former welfare recipients are more likely to join the ranks
of Virginia's working poor, earning less than 6 dollars an hour.

In addition to charity that only alleviates the symptoms
We need justice and equity.
When he comes says the prophet
"Justice and peace shall kiss."
