Catholics with Disabilities:
Reflections on God, Life, and the Journey of Faith
Following the 6pm Mass on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 7pm in Benedict Hall

What is it like to be blind? To have difficulty walking or expressing yourself as others would expect? What is it like to struggle with physical, mental, or emotional challenges? What are the joys and the challenges of being disabled and belonging to the Catholic faith community? Come and hear from a panel of St. Charles parishioners about their own journeys and the call to live the Gospel of Jesus.

All are welcome including families, parents, and friends who either live with, care for, or interact with people with disabilities-be it children, adults, or seniors, lay persons including health professionals, educators, caregivers, and public policy professionals.

Resources on advocacy as well as national and local contacts will be provided.

Summer Series: A Four-Pack for Your Faith

The Da Vinci Code and the Gnostic Gospels:
Exploring What We Know About Jesus

Presented by Catherine Heinhold on 7/6/06

There has been much publicity around the book and movie as well some "new" writings attributed to the Gnostics. What do these sources have to tell us about our own tradition and faith journeys? Catherine Heinhold is a Catholic Campus Minister at Georgetown University.

Reflections on Marriage:
Learning to Love the Ordinary and Holy

Presented by Debby and Eric West on 7/13/06

Debby and Eric West will reflect on their own authentic marriage journey of sacrament, vocation, blessings, and challenges. They have been married for 36 years and are the St. Charles contacts for the national Retrouvaille retreat program for marriages in need of healing and renewal. Single and married folks invited, indeed anyone who desires to love more fully.
Spirituality at Work: Opportunity or Impossibility?
Presented by Carol O'Neil on 7/19/06

We often associate faith with participation at Church, but how does our faith affect our daily lives and our work? How can we integrate our spirituality into our jobs and careers and embrace the call to be authentic disciples at work as well. Carol O'Neil is an Associate Academic Deal at the Georgetown University Law Center and is a parishioner of St. Charles.
"Understanding the Bible:
How Catholics Read the Scriptures"

Presented by Dr. Alan Mitchell on 7/27/06

Many Catholics get their "dose" of Scripture at Sunday Mass. Our Protestant brothers and sisters can often run circles around us with their knowledge and understanding of the Bible. The Catholic tradition of understanding the Bible is in some ways like but also different from the Protestant tradition. Beginners, longtime Scripture readers, and everyone in between are invited. Dr. Alan Mitchell is an Associate Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins at Georgetown University and is Director of the Annual Institute on Sacred Scripture.
