2001 Goals and Objectives
Planning Year 2001 (July 2000-June 2001)
- To build community in the light of Christ.
- To strengthen neighborhood participation in the areas of HOME (Hosptiality, Outreach, Meditation/Prayer/Liturgy, and Education).
- To foster hospitality on a parish level by strengthening existing events (e.g. Polka Party, etc.) and developing new activities, such as International Night.
- To recognize and celebrate the cultural heritages of our parishioners, including African-American, Asian, European and Latin American, by promoting events such as Our Lady of Guadalupe and providing for bilingual advertisement of parish activities.
- To expand outreach activities to embrace seniors, recent retirees, families with infants, families with teenagers, students, etc.
- to encourage and enhance the regular use of the cafeteria and the responsible stewardship of all facilities.
- To develop a Parish Community Center.
- To implement the fund-raising plan.
- To implement the communications plan covering parish, school, Arlington County government/community and Diocese.
- To solicit architectural/construction bids in accordance with Diocesan procedures.
- To strengthen and increase volunteer involvement.
- To develop an inventory of skills and needs to match volunteers with the right position on a timely basis.
- To recognize volunteers.
- To increase the visibility of ministry/neighborhood leaders.
- To strengthen liturgical planning.
- To identify a professional liaison (perhaps from WTU or Catholic University) to work with the liturgy planning sub-committee.
- To create a liturgical events plan that is integrated in the annual parish calendar.
- To use bi-monthly liturgy meetings for communications.
- To foster ushering/greeting ministry.
- To strengthen evangelization efforts.
- To increase the outreach of our religious education programs.
- To offer Jubilee themes on a parish, small group and individual level.
- To implement a program for inactive Catholics.
- To increase ecumenical programs.
- To increase outreach through neighborhoods.
- To strengthen communications with the parish community.
- To include evangelization goals in all ministry/neighborhood plans.
- To use the parish Web site for outreach.
- To strengthen program and budget planning.
- To demonstrate a clear linkage between ministry and neighborhood goals/objectives and the parish vision, mission, and goals.
- To complete the parish planning process in a more sensitive, timely and comprehensive manner.
- To support and maintain a timely and accurate parish calendar of events for all parishioners.
- To report on "best practices" in planning by ministries and neighborhoods.
- To strengthen the link between faith and daily life.
- To integrate faith and justice issues in parish plans and activities.
- To foster spirituality for the workplace through outreach to workers in the vicinity of St. Charles (perhaps by adding a daily noon Mass after Lent 2000).
- To foster involvement in Haiti and other missions.
- To provide more opportunities for (adult) education and faith-sharing.
- To recognize and celebrate joyous/momentous events in parishioners' lives (e.g. baptisms, wedding anniversaries, etc.).
