All Signs Proclaim New Life
Summary of a Fr. Gerry Creedon homily from March 30, 2008
"From the waters of death you raise us with him and renew your gift of life within us."
All the signs proclaim new life; bunny rabbits, Easter eggs and bonnets, spring flowers.
In our liturgies we celebrate with lilies, bread, newly blessed oils and wine. The pre-eminent sign of resurrection is water.
The readings remember the crossing of the Red Sea and the Jordan River on the journey to freedom. Many of our ancestors crossed another body of water, the Atlantic, that bowl of tears, in their escape from famine and tyranny, in search of a land of promise. In more recent times the Rio Grande is the demarcation between poverty and a new life in El Norte.
Through the waters of baptism 4 new adults were welcomed at the Easter Vigil to a new life in our company. Another 5 renewed their baptismal promises and professed our baptismal faith.
Through the rites of the church we learn that the primordial sign of the Risen Presence of the Lord is God's People; you and I. We hope and pray that our new members find among the people of St. Charles many indications that Jesus is alive.
