Summary of a Fr. Gerry Creedon homily from June 03, 2007

"I found delight in the human race." Proverbs 8:31

The Irish playwright JM Synge, in his Playboy of the Western World, describes a scene in the romance of Christy Mahon and Pegeen Mike. In a moment of passion, Christy cries out to the skies, "I'd feel a kind of pity for the Lord God of all ages sitting lonesome in his golden chair."

To contrast intimacy with what the writer sees as the isolation of the Almighty makes for wonderful poetry, but bears no relationship to the biblical image of God.

The Feast of the Trinity proclaims love and engagement as the heart of God. Father, Son, and Spirit, interact in an exchange of energy. The inner life of God is communion. St Paul puts the mystery into plain language, "The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us."

Though baptism we are initiated into the life of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are also welcomed into a family created by the outpouring of the Spirit. If we experience love and passion, we touch the energy of divine life. "I was his delight day by day." Prov 8:31
