Summary of a Fr. Gerry Creedon homily from Commitment Sunday, October 16, 2005,
OVER THE PAST WEEK we have been asked to discern our participation in the stewardship of our parish. Today we are called to renew our commitment in the light of the circumstances we find ourselves in today and in view of the priorities we have established. As Christians we recognize our resources as a trust from the Creator for our own use and the benefit of others.
Many of us have a tendency to postpone fiscal plans and decisions, even with the best of intentions.
The Irish writer Frank O'Connor tells a story about two boys who want to rob an orchard. They come to a high wall and hesitate. On the other side may be the owner with a dog. Then one of them took his cap and threw it over the wall. Then they had no other option but to follow.
Today let us risk ourselves not knowing what the future may hold, yet sure that our choices for generosity will bring forth the good fruit of the Kingdom.
