"The opioid crisis has severely impacted the Diocese of Arlington. In six years opioid overdose deaths have increased threefold within the diocese, and jumped 200 percent statewide. How can we as a Diocese address this epidemic?
Parishioners, ministry leaders, clergy and the public are invited to consider our response at “Seeking Hope and Healing in the Opioid Crisis,” a free conference from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018, the Feast of the Archangels, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Hwy, Alexandria.
Check in begins at 9:30 a.m., following the 9 a.m. parish Mass.
Catholic Charities psychologist Dr. Michael Horne will give a keynote address. There will also be small group presentations on resilience in families, how parishes and communities can work together, and the spiritual response to the crisis.
Bishop Burbidge will provide welcoming remarks and lead a prayer service at the conference’s conclusion.
Please attend to help us address this critical issue, and invite others.
To attend, please RSVP via email at firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, September 26.
