Faith Responses to Genocide

You are invited to a discussion on Darfur, Sudan. Our panelists will discuss what has gone on in Darfur so far, and what different faith perspectives teach us about our responsibilities to Sudan.

Rabbi Leila Gal Berner

Rabbi Leila Gal Berner is the rabbi for Kol Ami: The Northern Virginia Reconstructionist Community and Director of Lev Tahor: A Center for Jewish Soulwork. A citizen of both Israel and the United States and long involved in interfaith work, Rabbi Berner is an active member of Rabbis for Human Rights and has been an outspoken voice in calling for a more rapid and effective response to the genocide in Darfur.

Marisa Vertrees Marisa Vertrees is the Social Justice Coordinator for St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. An active participant in interfaith advocacy work, Ms. Vertrees has been an activist on human rights and environmental issues for many years and advocates ways that individuals and smaller organizations can become involved in human rights struggles abroad.
