Liturgy Dinner & Lecture

(This event replaces the 19 July Liturgy Ministry Dinner/Social)

The Occasion:
As a concluding event for our 2005 "business" year, all members of the Liturgy Ministries Team are invited to an evening of fellowship at dinner followed by a Lecture/ Discussion of teaching and practice on Liturgy that has evolved in the 40 years since Vatican II concluded. The program will be led by Tom Stehle, an instructor in the Trinity College EPS program which has been offered through the Arlington Diocese for several years. The program starts with dinner at 6pm in Benedict Hall and is briefly outlined below:

Outline:

• After dinner, Tom will present a two hour lecture/discussion program beginning about 7 PM and ending at 9 PM.
• The focus of the lecture will be a review of the vision of the liturgical renewal as outlined in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy and subsequent documents, including John Paul II's Dies Domini and Mane Nobiscum Domine.
• The lecture will include time for group sharing and questions and answers.
• The goal of this evening will be to kindle the desire of those in liturgical ministry to prepare and enable liturgies that are life-giving and effective. Often, the fundamentals of good liturgical practice are obscured in just getting the job done.
• This program will highlight the basic principles which demonstrate how the liturgy is the source and summit of the Christian life. It will use stories, scripture, songs and images that will make that reality palpable.
