On Saturday, April
16, 2005, many young families from St. Charles gathererd in Benedict
Hall to celebrate the Easter Season with prayer, crafts for the kids and
a potluck feast in an event organized by Laura Peralta-Schulte and Rose
Holliday.
The program included
the following:
Opening
Prayer:
Jesus is Risen (to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb)
Jesus Christ
is risen today,
risen today, risen today.
Jesus Christ is Risen today,
Alleluia
He has come for one and all,
one and all, one and all.
He has come for one and all,
Alleluia
Jesus brings new life to us,
life to us, life to us.
Jesus brings new life to us
Alleluia
Alleluia Box
During Lent we do not use the word "Alleluia." Today, we celebrate
Easter by letting the Alleluia out of our treasure chest.
Lighting of the Easter Candle
Today we light the Easter candle as a sign that the risen Christ is with
us. We are asked to be the sign of light for others and we pray for the
Holy Spirit to guide our lives and our Church. Amen
Butterfly: Traditional symbol of the Resurrection
Butterflies are a reminder that Easter is a time of new beginnings and
new hope because of Jesus. The butterfly is the traditional resurrection
symbol since it comes forth from a cocoon in a way reminiscent of Jesus'
rising from the tomb on Easter Sunday.
Offering
We now offer our prayers of thanksgiving for all God has done for us.
(Each child comes forward to offer a thank-you and place a butterfly on
the poster.)
Closing Song
Thank you God the Father, Thank you God the Son, Thank you God the Spirit,
three in one.
