WHAT WE NEED

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Help us fix a grain mill in Cavaillon The grain mill in Cavaillon is used by small farmers in the area. Some of the output is used for the school lunch program. The mill engine is broken due to overuse. Cavaillon can pay $2,000, but an additional $4,000 is needed. Identify your contribution as "Mill -- Cavaillon." If you know anything about running grain mills, contact Richard Young (703-465-9685) on the Haiti Committee.
Finance a small livestock project in Gros Marin Through the kindness of a St. Charles parishioner, the community of Gros Marin launched a micro-enterprise livestock (goats and sheep) project. These animals are raised and sold to the community to increase nutritional status and to launch individual livestock ventures. Additional funds will expand this important but still small project. Mark your check “Livestock project -- Gros Marin.”
Start a small livestock micro-enterprise project in Cavaillon Cavaillon is interested in starting a micro-enterprise livestock project similar to the one in Gros Marin. If you’d like to help capitalize this project, please mark your contribution “Livestock project -- Cavaillon.”
Complete the rectory at Gros Marin One of Fr. Marquis' top priorities is to finish the rectory in Gros Marin, which also acts as a community center. The total cost is $25,000. To contribute to this need, please write "Rectory -- Gros Marin" on your check.
Capitalize a community store in Cavaillon The parish of Cavaillon has taken out a small commercial loan ($1,000 Haitian) to capitalize a community store that sells construction supplies and implements and staple foods at reduced prices. With additional capitalization they can more rapidly expand their stock and can repay the loan more quickly. Mark your contribution “Caritas community store -- Cavaillon.”
Feed school children in Cavaillon The families of school children pay 25 percent of the costs for a program to provide a school meal each day. For $10 per year you can pick up the balance of the costs and feed one child for a whole year. Identify your contribution as “Lunch program -- Cavaillon.”
Buy a photocopier in Cavaillon The parish of Cavaillon requires a photocopier at an approximate cost of $5,000. Mark your contribution “Photocopier – Cavaillon.”
Provide ESL training books for Oiseau (a chapelle in Cavaillon) We’re looking for some books to share with individuals in Oiseau who would like to strengthen their English. If you have such materials (preferably in French) to donate please contact Josephine Lee (703-522-5320) on the Haiti Committee and we’ll ship them to Haiti.
Find donated medicines for the Flamand health clinic Lots of U.S.-based clinics and hospitals throw away sample medicines and supplies that could be effectively used in the clinic in Flamand. If you know a source of such materials or would like to help us track them down, please contact Kim Werthmann (703-818-2114) on the Haiti Committee.
Support the existing clinics and nurses The cost of running two clinics amounts to $120 per month. To contribute to this need, mark your check "Existing clinics, nurses."
Share your expertise on solar energy options in Gros Marin and Cavaillon We are interested in supporting solar energy use in the parishes. If you have knowledge to share regarding solar energy please contact Gail Goodridge (703-271-9436) on the Haiti Committee.
Buy a camera for the student sponsorship program A camera is desired for the student sponsorship program so school administrators can photograph the children and record other St. Charles-supported activities. If you'd like to contribute one, please do!
Train the teachers in Gros Marin and Cavaillon The teachers in Gros Marin and Cavaillon attend annual training seminars at $600 per year. Mark your check, "Teacher training."
Fund internet service connections for Gros Marin and Cavaillon To improve communication with our sister parishes we’re hoping to establish email connections with Gros Marin and Cavaillon. At a minimum we’d like to support internet service provider funding.
Fuel a generator The cost of running the generator in Cavaillon amounts to $4 per day. Please mark your contribution, "Generator fuel – Cavaillon."
Build a health clinic in Gros Marin St. Charles provided initial funding to support a community nurse working from a small room on the compound of the Gros Marin parish. Unfortunately when salary funds were finished, the community was unable to sustain the recurrent costs. If Gros Marin were able to construct a small clinic in accordance with Ministry of Health specifications, the Ministry of Health would provide the community nurse and stock the clinic. If you’d like to help contribute to this capital campaign, please earmark your contribution to “Health clinic -- Gros Marin.”
