Prior to the Stakeout on the Circle, Jane McCarthy, Campaign Administrator, updated the parish on our
"Build the Spirit" Capital Campaign at all the Masses. She announced that our fundraising results so far
have helped us to reach our next milestone--returning to the Diocese for the next phase of selecting an architect.
The Diocese requires 40 percent of the projected cost of
the project in hand before we can select an architect
from the Diocesan-approved list. Since
we are allowed to
count all parish (cash) assets when calculating the
40 percent, See also: other parish photos from 2000.
Stakeout on the Circle
The parish planted the first stake
of the parish center after the Masses on the sunny weekend of October 21-22, 2000.
The stake in the center of the circular driveway symbolizes where the parish center
might go. It also highlights our latest milestone--going forward to hire a Diocesan-approved architect.
Capital Campaign "Spirit Team" members came to answer
parishioners' questions about the Build the Spirit project, to distribute Campaign materials
and to hand out complimentary "Spirit Team" magnets.
Drawings from Pre-Design Phase Are Popular
The Spirit Team displayed drawings of possible building exteriors. Parishioners flocked
to see what the end results might look like. The drawings came from the extensive pre-design phase of the
project, but are not approved plans. They were displayed just to give a sense of what might be possible.
The plans depicted an attractive building where the circular driveway is now, with a brick exterior that fits right in
with its surroundings. Another option showed an additional building next to the school along Washington Blvd.
Sister B. and Priests Have Hard Hats & Soft Hearts
Sister Benedict and Fathers Mendez & Creedon came prepared for anything by sporting colorful
hardhats. The school's principal commented that after many years and many pastors, it looked like
the important expansion of our facilities would take place.
Sister B. Lends a Hand, Jane Gives an Update
Leading by example, Sr. B. hammered the stake in the ground with great confidence and accuracy.
Medical staff were on hand, but none of the hammer wielders smashed any thumbs during the event.
Jane McCarthy, Campaign Administrator, presented an update on our "Build the Spirit" Capital Campaign
at the end of Mass. The Parish Center site has more information about the project.
Don't forget to join the campaign and show your spirit with your Spirit Team magnet.
Total Projected Cost of the Project: $3 million
Pledge total to date: $1.755 million
Pledges/Contributions Received (in cash): $700,000
we add parish savings of $500,000 + the $700,000 above = a total of
$1.2 million
-- thus satisfying the Diocesan requirement.
