“New Members” Dinner a Huge Success!

Nineteen C’YA members dined on fabulous Italian food at Buca di Beppo downtown on Saturday, June 26th. Although billed as a “new members” dinner, all were welcome and attendance ranged from veteran C’YA participants to first-timers.

We exceeded the capacity of the "Pope Room," and crowded around a large, round table with a giant lazy susan in the middle (with a bust of the Pope as a centerpiece, of course!). Delicious Italian appetizers and main courses were passed around and quickly consumed as we enjoyed the family-style fare. In between courses, we were even able to learn a little church history from all the Pope-related displays! The dinner was topped off with excellent desserts, and the tiramisu was in such demand we ordered another serving.

Many in the group were having so much fun we were reluctant to end the evening, so we ended up enjoying fine Irish music and beverages at Ireland’s Four Provinces on Connecticut Avenue. A grand time was had by all, and many thanks go to sponsors Lisa Solomon and Tita Ponce.

C’YA Sunday Night Socials
By Nick Baric, Social Activities Co-Coordinator

C'YA Sunday Night Socials have been a popular event on our calendar since their inception in early 2002. Usually held on the third Sunday of the month after the 6:00 pm mass, Sunday Night Socials (SNS) are an especially good way for those who are new to C'YA to get introduced to our group and our Leadership Team.

Activities at previous Sunday Night Socials have included Seder dinners during Lent, salsa dance lessons, open houses, karaoke nights, crafts activities, bowling, and the popular pre-Thanksgiving dinner. So far in 2004, we have had ice cream sundae making, a Mardi Gras party, and a Father’s Day-themed SNS. Some months, the SNS is just a time to socialize and enjoy dinner and fellowship with other Catholic young adults/professionals. Finally, they are a lot of fun!

So, come on over to Benedict Hall for our next SNS, meet C’YA, and see how you can become more involved!

A Reflection on C’YA Praise and Worship Nights
By Kelly Moon, Spiritual Activities Coordinator

When our desire grew stronger to grow in faith, to be surrounded in Jesus’ presence, and to be strengthened through small faith sharing groups and speakers, God showered us with abundance.

Sometimes we want to search and grow closer to God in our spiritual hunger, to be encouraged, to share our happiness, and to find a place to run to in times of trouble. The Lord is so good and provides it all for us. All it takes is a willingness to draw closer to Him and the desire to know that He could help us to grow.

Through beautiful music and hearts we lifted up singing His glory, He showed us His unceasing love. Through the amazing support Fr. Creedon and Fr. Mendez provided in leading beautiful Eucharistic Adorations, I found Jesus’ embrace, closeness, humble heart and forgiveness. Through the wonderful talks Fr. Creedon, Fr. Mendez and Jean Sweeney provided, and in reaching my heart deep within where I had long been searching without knowing, I found truth.

In the untiring souls of dedication that each team member reflected for these praise & worship nights, I found inspiration and trust where the love for God beat all other things. Above all, the souls searching for His love and hungry for His words led me to realize that it is God who is drawing all of us together in His name. The times we are able to share this way are priceless.

Yes, sometimes, it is intimidating to come to a new spiritual event. I understand how hard it may be for newcomers who may wonder what kind of people we are or what this crazy new thing is all about. Well, all I can say is that no matter what kind of a day I am having or how much I feel burdened, these precious moments of praising God and listening to God in His love make me forget about everything. These moments lead me into the ever-forgiving love of Christ, everlasting joy that brings me out of my bottomless pit, and the faith and trust that strengthen me as I walk together with all of you in this journey of following Christ. Moreover, it’s really fun!

Since Easter, C’YA has been gathering twice a month on the first and third Thursdays for Praise and Worship Nights.

What Loving Jesus Feels Like…
By Kelly Moon

Jesus, loving you is like filling my heart with your love.

Loving you is like

Blowing air of hope, dreams and happiness and letting it fly on the clouds,
Seeing the rainbow that doesn’t disappear,
Watching the green, green trees glistening with morning dew,
Looking at bright shining stars and making it mine.

Loving you is like watching paper sailboats fly in the sky,
Seeing your smile,
Seeing never ending flower garden and getting drenched in it,
Watching ever-clear waterfall

Dispersing into the thin air and leaving it all for you,
Not needing the world because I love you so much,
Not worrying about tomorrow and being buried in the goodness of today because you mean everything to me,
Forgetting despair and resting my head in peace and hope,

Loving you is like

Seeing the whitest snow falling and covering the entire earth,
Christmas and its magic,

Floating on the water,
Seeing the most beautiful thing ever seen.

Loving you is like being an angel and sitting on the crescent moon,
Believing in miracles,
Being the most special person in the whole world,

Loving you is like crying of happiness,
Being a child,
Standing on the tallest spot and looking down,

Seeing my dreams come true, watching our loved ones come back to life.

Loving you is like letting it go,

Having your souls connected,

Turning something so old and dirty into sparkling fresh,

Loving you is like running warm sand through your fingers,

Loving you is like
Finding the most precious thing,

You are the source and creator of Love,
I love you, Jesus.
