Parish Council minutes are available to all parishioners here and in the parish library in the Council minutes binder. The library version also contains monthly reports and other documents referenced as "attached" in the minutes.
The Parish Council Meeting was held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, in Room 103 of the Parish Community Center. Members present were:
Joe O'Neil opened the meeting with a prayer at 7:35 p.m. He then welcomed two new members to the Council, Ms. Erhardt and Mr. Monaco.
A few minor changes were made in the draft minutes of the November 8 meeting and the minutes were then approved.
Fr. Creedon reported that he had not yet received a reply to his letter to Bishop Loverde requesting approval of the Future Facilities Committee's plan of action. Once approval is received, an RFP will be sent to a number of architectural firms. On another subject, Fr. Gerry discussed the recent letters from Sr. Benedict announcing her intention to retire as St. Charles School Principal next year. Fortunately, she will continue to serve the parish in areas of pastoral care, for example in the Circle of Caring work.
Ms. Fitzgerald reported for Stacy Lucas who was not able to attend. She mentioned that, at its last meeting, the committee focused on plans to articulate a set of the parish's core values and, secondly, on preliminary ideas for the parish's 2009 Centennial. Council members then completed a brief two-question survey form; results will assist the committee in its core values project.
About half the Council members have been successful in joining the listserv group. Many of the other half have had difficult signing up. Ms. Rogers will do what she can to help them join.
As the result of a discussion at the November 8 meeting, a number of Council members submitted to Ms. Rogers suggestions for changes and additions to the web site. At the end of considerable discussion, it was agreed that the issues are complex and much study is needed, that the parish staff and web team should be contacted and involved in the project, and that development of an overall process would be a good start.
Feast will be celebrated Sunday. Highlight will be a special 1 p.m. Spanish Mass followed by a Fiesta in the Parish Center Gymnasium. Council members were encouraged to attend the Fiesta and, if possible, the Mass as well.
Ms. Lacot reported that there the annual "Polka Party" to benefit the school scholarship program will be held on the last Saturday of January. It will receive a new name this year, possibly the Scholarship Dinner Dance.
Ms. McGlinchy said the Pre-School is still waiting for its Certificate of Occupancy from Arlington County.
The annual Simbang Gabi Celebration will begin on December 16.
The Council will hold its next meeting on January 24, 2008.
