from the pastor...FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Members of St. Charles,

You have recently received a report on the past year from the President of the Parish Council. It tells the story of the growth of St. Charles. Our numbers and our services continue to increase. The parish Survey reveals a high level of participation and satisfaction. In September, we will continue our successful Volunteer Fair. You noted that we need to do a better job of following up with all who volunteer. We intend to do so. Please consider how you may serve in the coming year. Consult the Web Site on Report and Survey.

Feel the Spirit!

Rev. Gerry Creedon

P.S. Please contact the Parish Office or Monica Craven if you wish to assist with parish fund-raising!

LISTEN TO YOUR DREAMS

What are your dreams telling you? Where does the dream information come from? There are “big” and “little” dreams, but nearly all dreams -- even the scary ones -- come to help us be more in touch with our interior lives, and tell us more than we already know. August 21, 10 AM to 11:30 AM for five weeks (first session in the Parish Library), $8.00 per session. Facilitated by Sylvia Teem who, for 15 years, has studied dreams in groups, seminars and workshops. Do you want to learn more? Or if this is new to you - welcome. Limited Registration. Call the Pastoral Counseling Office at 527-5500 x15 to register.

THANK YOU! Through the kindness of the sponsors that appear, this bulletin is furnished to our Parish without charge. We feel the sponsors get good coverage with their ads, and at a relatively low cost and we urge you to patronize them. Diocesan Publications has done a fine job in publishing our weekly bulletin and we hope our present sponsors renew their ads. Also, if others are interested, please contact the Parish Office or call Diocesan Publications at 800-233-8200.

SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER...

OUR PANTRY SHELVES NEED SUPPLIES!!! In the last several weeks, we have helped feed more than fifteen families (close to forty individuals). Without your donations of non-perishable items, we would not have been able to feed these hard-working, but very poor folks. Your help is always needed to keep our pantry shelves stocked. Current needs: rice, beans, canned soups, pasta sauce, peanut butter and cereal. However, any non-perishable items are most appreciated! Thank you all so very much for reaching out to your sisters and brothers right here in our neighborhood. Please leave your donations in the baskets located at the entrances to the Church. May God bless you!

PHILIPPINE MEDICAL MISSION

In the spirit of solidarity, we invite you to learn about the Philippine Medical Mission. Sister Eva has been working for years to establish a place where good medical care can be provided for the poor of metro Manila. Please join Sr. Eva, Celia Coronado and Marisel Bretault in the Parish Library after the 5 PM, 9 AM and 11 AM Masses on August 14 and 15. If you have any questions, feel free to call Celia at 524-1585.

Ministry

God has given you [parents] a special vocation. To preserve human life on earth, he instituted the family. You are the first guardians and protectors of the life which is not yet come into the world but is already conceived. Accept the gift of life as the greatest grace from God, as his blessing for the family, the nation and for the Church.
-John Paul II, June 14 Homily at Lowicz

In addition to your prayers, we need your support of Project Ian, organized by the Columbus Club at the Knights of Columbus in Arlington, Project Ian includes many fund-raising efforts to help raise essential funds to meet the high costs of medical treatment and the family’s other expenses. On Sunday, August 8, from noon to midnight, come to Summer Fest at the Knights of Columbus for a great BBQ, volleyball tournament, moon bounce, kids activities, as well as swimming, raffles, custom car show, and live music from 7 to midnight presented by the Flying Cows of Ventry. OFFERTORY ENVELOPES

Using the pre-printed envelopes mailed to you, speeds the process of counting the contributions each week, and also insures that your donation will be reflected in your annual statement issued at the end of the year. Be assured that donations placed in any of the envelopes included in your packet will be credited to your account. Please, no staples or tape on the envelopes.
