Dear Members of St. Charles,
This past year we have studied the feasibility of a Parish Center and have
begun a strategic plan. A Parish Center Committee has been formed under the
leadership of Monica Craven and Andrea Pampaloni. A summary of a parish survey
is enclosed detailing the center as a parish priority for respondents. Kathleen
Moriarty has volunteered her architectural skills for preliminary planning. We
are in need of other professionals who will lend their skills, especially in
the area of capital campaign development and engineering. Please study the
advertisement in todays bulletin. Our thanks to all who have assisted
this project with such patience over the years. I hope the coming year will
bring us to a happy resolution. You may call Monica, Andrea, Kathleen or the
Office if you wish to volunteer.
Feel the Spirit,

SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER...
OFFENDER AID AND RESTORATION of Arlington County Helping to
Break the Cycle of Crime & DONATIONS OF USED CLOTHING AND
HOUSEHOLD ITEMS - How do these fit together? Let us tell you! We receive
many donations each week of used clothing and such. In turn, we find volunteers
to take these items to Goodwill. It would be wonderful if those of you
donating items could take them to Goodwill at the outset AND SAVE YOUR
GOODWILL RECEIPTS! Bring the receipts to the Parish Office. Brigid Doherty, our
Social Justice Minister, will make sure they get to the OAR program. OARs
mission is to restore the individual offender as a responsible member of the
community by providing programs and services to inmates and ex-prisoners. Our
donated receipts are turned into vouchers for OAR clients. They use the
vouchers to get clothing for job interviews, and to get back on their feet once
released. Thanks, as always for your generosity, willingness to help, and your
spirit of giving.
Ministry
Concern must be shown for the elderly, who are
often neglected and left to fend for themselves. They must be respected as
persons; it is important to care for them and to help them in ways which will
promote their rights and ensure their greatest possible physical and spiritual
well-being. [They] must be protected from situations or pressures which could
drive them to suicide; ... they must be helped nowadays to resist the
temptation of assisted suicide and euthanasia.
