Dear Members of St. Charles,
Last Sunday, I went down to Quincy Park in thunderous rain wondering what
happened to Neighborhood Ds Picnic. The much needed but torrential rain
did not scatter the neighbors who huddled amicably under the pavilion, that had
been luckily staked out by John Teem, our valiant Neighborhood Representative
at 6 AM that morning! It was perhaps the most obvious sign that Neighborhoods
are here to stay as a feature of St. Charles. This Sunday, Neighborhood F will
meet at Bon Air Park. It has been a delight for me to do a pastoral visit with
our neighbors during our June gatherings, to meet new people to hear their joys
and their pains and to celebrate life and faith together. Our Council Members
have given outstanding leadership in this initiative to build community.
This weekend we celebrate Gathering,
a seven year old movement that brings people together to share scriptures and
faith. Call the Parish Office and speak to Jean Sweeney if you would like to
join a group.
On Saturday night, we reviewed a project Adopt-A-Family. This
effort hopes to link the parish with a family moving out of poverty. If you are
interested, call the Parish Office or Mary Rackmales at 525-6586.
Feel the Spirit,

Ministry
How can we fail to thank God and express genuine
appreciation to our brothers and sisters in the faith throughout America who
are committed ... to defending live by every legal mans and to protecting the
unborn, the incurably ill and the handicapped. Their work is all the more
praiseworthy if we consider the indifference of so many people, the threats
posed by eugenics and the assaults on life and human dignity perpetrated
everywhere each day.

12-MONTH PARISH CALENDAR ONLINE NOW
We bet youre wondering when Oktoberfest is this year, or even the
Polka Party in 2000. Find out by going to the parish web site,
www.stcharleschurch.org, and select Parish
Calendar. Youll see the many events we as a parish have planned
all the way through June 2000. Or, maybe you want to look back and learn about
our parishs history or even find out what a ministry is doing today. You
can do all that and more on our web site. Try some hi-tech, low-key
evangelizing this week by telling a friend or neighbor about St. Charles on the
Internet! If youre interested in helping out the Web Team, please e-mail
webteam@stcharleschurch.org.
