Dear Members of St. Charles,
This weekend, 62 children from our Latin American community at St. Charles
will make their First Holy Communion. This is a sign of Pentecost. When the
Spirit descended on the early church each heard the message in their own
language. The many cultures of our hemisphere are united in common faith in the
one spirit, eating the Bread of Life. Let us pray that the ethnic violence and
the death of civilians be ended in the Balkans through the reconciling Power of
the Spirit of Peace.
Feel the Spirit,
P.S. We need some more Ushers at the 5 PM, 7:30 & 9 AM Masses. Call the
Office.
P.P.S. I hope you kept last Sundays Post Outlook Section. It contains
an excellent article by Fr. Bryon Hehir on the Just War Tradition and Kosovo.
HAITI PARISH TWINNING PROGRAM ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
This year marks the twentieth year that the Haiti Parish Twinning Program
(HPTP) has been affording Catholic laity as well as clergy the opportunity to
cultivate relationships and solidarity with the poor and to develop fellowship
in the full meaning of Vatican II. Certainly completing twenty years of service
is a fitting time for all of us to celebrate: a time to review the progress
made and to imagine the future. The date for the Washington/Baltimore Area
Haiti Parish Twinning Program Twentieth Anniversary Celebration is Saturday,
June 5, 1999. The address for this event is 900 N. Stafford St., Arl., VA.
Registration will be from 2 - 2:30 PM. The day will consist of workshops and
information sharing. A dinner at 6 PM will conclude the days activities.
There is no charge for this event. Donations for dinner will be accepted. For
more information (& reservations - sitting is limited), call Pat Neuman at
522-3525.
BONE MARROW DONOR INFORMATION
Thank you for your generous and caring response to help 12-year-old Leslie
Zolbe find a bone marrow donor match. If the bone marrow drives listed on the
flyer were not convenient for you, please call Colleen & Scott Dykema at
527-0624 for additional locations. Please continue to pray for Leslie and all
those awaiting transplants.

The pro-life concern must be present in every

meeting will signal the commitment of the whole Catholic community to implement
the teaching of Living the Gospel of life ... and that it will
strengthen the resolve of many people to continue their generous and tireless
efforts.

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS
Thanks to everyone who submitted nominations for Parish Council Neighborhood
Representatives.
After speaking with the potential candidates to ascertain their interest in
serving, we are pleased that the following parishioners have stepped forward to
represent our parish on the Council: Neighborhood C - Dale and Bill
Anhut; Neighborhood D - Monica Beaston; and Neighborhood F -
Angela and Allan Rowley.
Since only one candidate/co-candidates in each Neighborhood agreed to serve,
we recommend that the formal election that had been planned is not necessary
this year. Unless new and willing nominees present themselves before our next
meeting, the Council intends to endorse the identified candidates (listed
above) at our June meeting. A transition period that will include coordinating
with the outgoing Representatives and participating in an orientation session
will take place over the summer.
In another action, Carolyn M. Gretzinger was unanimously and
wholeheartedly reelected as Council Chair at our April meeting. Under the rules
of the Council, that left Neighborhood B representation open. After contacting
several Neighborhood B residents about their interest in the position, the
Council voted unanimously (during the May meeting) to endorse Mark Pando
to fill out the remainder of Carolyns term as Neighborhood B
Representative.
