mother's day

Dear Members of St. Charles,

Let us renew our love for mothers on their day. Cards and gifts are signs of an underlying reality: appreciation, respect and practical support. I was listening to Public Radio recently. Studies indicate that modern couples have a mutual egalitarian relationship until they have children, when suprisingly they most often revert to more traditional modes. I believe that especially in our situation parenting roles need to be shared. Everybody pitching in to help is not only a Mother’s Day treat but a year-round way of supporting mothers.

Our Borromeo Housing is a constant sign of St. Charles support to single mothers and their children. Through our mentoring, 90% of those we assist are able to lead self-sufficient lives. Our Second Collection is dedicated to them.

May Mary the Mother of Jesus be our guide,

Rev. Gerry Creedon

Ministry

All human beings, from their mothers’ womb, belong to God who searches them and knows them, who forms them and knits them together with his own hands, who gazes on them when they are tiny shapeless embryos and already sees in them the adults of tomorrow whose days are numbered and whose vocation is even now written in the “book of life”

- John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, 61
