alleluia!

Dear Members of St. Charles,

The Easter Season proclaims New Life!

This Sunday we celebrate First Holy Communion with children who participate in our Atrium (religious education) program. The disciples on the road to Emmaus after the death of Jesus recognize the Risen Lord “in the breaking of the bread”. May we join our new communicants in a fresh appreciation of Christ’s eucharistic presence. The offering of letters for Bread for the World is a way of sharing life and hope with the world’s hungry children. Check today’s flyer.

Last week our new Bishop proclaimed the “Consistent ethic of life” as it applies to the death penalty and the abortion issues. May his stance and his witness prompt a re-examination of attitudes and a renewal of our efforts to protect and celebrate human life.

Catholic Relief Services are a leading agency in the area of humanitarian support to the Kosovo crisis. The address is: CRS, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21203-7090.

Alleluia! Christ lives!

SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER...

16th ANNUAL WALK FOR LIFE: Catholic Charities of Arlington is sponsoring a “Walk for Life” on Sunday, May 2 at 11:00 AM at Fort Hunt Park in Alexandria. Registration fees are $12.00 per person / $25.00 for a family, which includes a tee-shirt and lunch. Beyond the registration fee, participants are asked to find people to “sponsor” their walk by making a donation. All proceeds go to support women and children in need. Bishop Loverde had this to say about the Walk: “I think as a Church we need to find realistic ways to give women the opportunity to preserve the life of their unborn child so she will not choose abortion...we need to find ways to offer them emotional, medical, physical and spiritual care...” For more information, pick up a Walk for Life sponsor sheet in the back of church today or call Catholic Charities at 703-841-2531.

Ministry

The critical need in the pro-life movement today, I believe, is the need for prayer; prayer that pounds the heavens for justice; prayer that pleads with God for mercy; prayer that washes our minds, cleanses our souls, purifies our hearts.

-- John Cardinal O’Connor, “Calling on the Spirit of Life,” 1991 Respect Life Program
