from the pastor's desk...

Dear Members of St. Charles,

Marissa Yatco died suddenly of cancer related problems last Sunday. Her funeral liturgy was a fitting tribute to the wonderful presence she was at St. Charles. She worked at the Office part-time where she was the soul of hospitality and service. Her major interest was outreach to the ill and the home-bound. On the night she was hospitalized, the final meeting was held to plan the Circle of Caring. She worked closely with me to organize a system to provide a continuum of care to the ill, the home-bound and the bereaved. She gave it her unique stamp. Our best tribute to Marissa will be our parish's outreach.

Palm Sunday begins a week that celebrates the dying and rising of Jesus. Come on Monday to celebrate Reconciliation/Confession. We will have lots of confessors, so we expect lots of (other) sinners! Let this be an Easter Duty and an Easter Joy! Make the Triduum, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil part of your family's calendar. We accompany the candidates for Baptism and Eucharist in a renewal of our own baptismal commitment to Christ, crucified and risen.

In Christ's Peace,
Gerry Creedon

DON'T FORGET!

Note!Daylight Savings Time begins on Easter Sunday, April 4, at 2:00 AM. Turn your clocks AHEAD one hour!

COME, PARTICIPATE WITH US, IN THE PASCAL TRIDUUM

The three days leading up to Easter, called the "Triduum" in Latin, is the core of our faith. On Holy Thursday we actively consider our roles as servants and served in remembering Jesus washing the feed of his disciples and celebrating the Last Supper with a bilingual Mass at 7:30 PM. On Good Friday, we remember the passion of Jesus with communion and the Veneration of the Cross (7:30 PM in English, 10 PM en Español). On the Easter Vigil (Saturday), we celebrate the baptism of the catechumens and their initiation into our Catholic family (7 M in English, 10 PM en Español) and await the glorious celebration of Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday. Come, participate with us, and with Him, in the observance of this most awe-inspiring story of sacrificial love.

SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER...

A special thanks to our hospitality team and all those who helped make our Lenten Soup Suppers such a success! We raised funds for Borromeo Housing, broke bread together and learned more about Catholic Social Teaching. Who could ask for anything more??? Again, many thanks for your great cooking, company and participation.

Respect LifeMinistry

A sign of hope is the increasing recognition that the dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil. Modern society has means of protecting itself, without definitively denying criminals the chance to reform. ... The Death Penalty ... is both cruel and unnecessary.
