25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Come to our Ministries Fair this weekend. Learn
about the programs of the parish & school. Seek a way to participate
and to assist the mission of the parish. I am especially looking for
parish representatives at the launch of VOICE, an interfaith effort
to promote justice. We hope to have 100 people to carry the banner of
St. Charles on Oct 5 at Mt. Zion Church in Dumfries. We hope to have
car pools leaving the parking lot at 3:30 pm. There were over 80 sign
ups at the Spanish Mass last weekend! There will be a table for more
inscriptions at the Ministries Fair in Benedict Hall after Masses this
weekend.
Our parish believes in utilizing the gifts of all our people. Come
and join us,
Feel the Spirit!

Gerry Creedon

CATHOLICS!

FALL SMALL FAITH GROUPS STARTING
Our seasonal small faith groups are always popular at St. Charles. Fall
groups will run for 6 weeks beginning the week of Sunday, October 5,
2008. But before we start groups we need to have facilitators. Let Michelle
Miller know if you are interested in facilitating. Previous experience
is not required. 703-527-5500 x115 or email her at adultfaith@stcharleschurch.org.
Small group sign-ups will begin at the Ministry Fair after Masses this
weekend.
CARING FOR GOD'S CREATION
Today's gospel reading reminds us of the value of working the fields,
and that it is never too late to turn to God. Well it's never too late
to learn a new earth-friendly habit or two. An easy action to take is
to allow grass clippings to stay on the lawn instead of bagging them.
The cut grass will decompose and return to the soil naturally. And don't
forget to always properly dispose of trash including cutting up the
plastic rings that surround soda cans and bottles. Otherwise those rings
can turn up in the ocean and strangle wildlife.
ST. CHARLES TURNS 100!
During 2009 St. Charles will turn 100! We will continue to plan for
many events during this exciting new year but we also need your help
now!
Slogan Contest: We are looking for a slogan for the Centennial
Year. Entry forms are available at the Church entrances as well as accepted
at the Ministry Fair. Entries are due by 8pm Sept 21. Interviews, Photos,
Memorabilia: We'd like to talk with the longest attending parishioners
and hear their stories about the early days of St. Charles. Also, anyone
who has photos or memorabilia they would like to share, we need you
too! Please contact Jan Prisco jprisco@StCharlesChurch.org
or 703-876-1937 or Paul Steinmetz steinmetzhill@verizon.net
or 703-521-7623. Our centennial celebration is just around the corner,
so let us know what you have to share!

laborers for the growing vineyard! So, please consider sharing your
faith with children at St. Charles. For more information or to volunteer,

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS

you.

Marriage and Money:
Setting Up Your Financial Household
Presented by Richard (Dick) Nelson
For Engaged, Newlywed, and Married Couples
Sun., October 5, 2008 from 7:15 to 8:45 PM in Benedict Hall
In 2000, the US Bishops commissioned research to name the common
challenges to newly married couples. The title of their final
report was "Time, Sex, and Money: The First Five Years."
Knowing that financial issues can cause great strain on a marriage,
it only makes sense that helping to equip couples with effective
financial tools is the way to go. In this hands-on workshop, couples
will learn together some tools of the trade like...
- 3 Commandments of Marriage and Money
- 5 Keys to Keeping the "Moneymoon" Alive
- Debt Do's and Don'ts
- Budget Guidelines
- Retirement Savings & More
A St. Charles parishioner since 1995, Dick provides financial
counseling and a range of family financial services to clients.
Dick provides workshops as a way of giving back to his faith community
and supporting married couples and families.
Dick is available to any couple or family who wish to look further
into financial counseling and financial independence, but there
is no obligation or expectation for attending this workshop.
To register:
Pre-Registration is expected to ensure sufficient handouts and
space.
Please drop off at the parish office or email to Michelle Miller at
