9th Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This weekend we salute our 8th grade class as they graduate from
St Charles. It is a historic moment, as this is the last graduating
class that will receive the tutelage of Sr. Benedict as Principal.
We pray for a future filled with hope for them and for Sr. Benedict.
I invite you to join with me for Conversations With Creedon on "Life,
Faith and Poetry" on June 8, at 7pm in Benedict Hall. It will
be an opportunity to share some of my writing and to dialogue on what
we all learn from our life experience.
We have reached 92% of an ambitious goal for the Bishop's Lenten
Appeal with 24% of our community's assistance. If a few more households
joined the effort we would be 100%. Thank you for your gracious generosity.
Feel the Spirit!
Gerry Creedon

CONVERSATIONS WITH CREEDON
Sun June 8, 7pm - Benedict Hall
"Life, Faith and Poetry"
with Pastor Fr. Gerry Creedon
Refreshments Provided - All are welcome
Here is a poem by Fr. Gerry that was recently published:
Reconciliation
A young man of 18 from Vernon
sat before me to confess his sins
And despite my 44 years of
mellowing, softening ambivalence
and the wisdom
of this world that saddens
I was able to still see like light
in his clean, angular face and
clear, judgmental, idealistic mind
Myself.
CATHOLIC INQUIRY 6-WEEK SUMMER SESSIONS
Anyone interested in exploring more about the Catholic faith is invited
to attend any or all of the upcoming evenings. Each Monday evening,
June 23 through July 28 from 7:30-8:30pm in the Library. An overview
of the Adult Initiation process will be given each week after the session
for those interested. Adultfaith@stcharleschurch.org
for more.
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS HELP
In the past month, we have noticed a much greater demand for food than
previously. As low income families struggle to pay the higher costs
of gasoline and food, they are reaching out to us and other neighborhood
resources to help supplement their budgets. Please consider donating
the following food items to the St. Charles pantry: rice, canned vegetables/fruits/soups/ravioli/beans,
peanut butter, jelly, cereal and other non-perishable items. Thank you.
ALTERNATIVE GIFT FAIR!
It's not too early to start planning for Christmas. This year, St. Charles
will have an alternative gift fair, with fair trade products, and opportunities
to donate to our ministries and other worthy causes. If you'd like to
help out, please contact Marisa Vertrees, mvertrees@stcharleschurch.org,
703-527-5500, ext. 126. Our first meeting will be Thursday, June 12th,
at 7pm in room 103.

food and financial assistance for many of our local brothers and sisters
in need.

Myanmar and China as requested by the Bishop. (The Building Fund 2nd
collection scheduled for May 30/June 1 has been moved to the weekend

Half of the funds remain in the Diocese of Arlington to fund local communications
projects. Funding will also support the various multimedia projects
by of the CCC that promote Gospel values though the mass media. Most
recently, the CCC promoted Pope Benedict's apostolic visit through the
launch of a website, the production of audio and video materials and
the facilitation of media coverage.
