Corpus Christi
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
On the feast of Corpus Christi we welcome the final group of First
Communicants to the Lord's Table at the 1pm Mass. "Because the
loaf is one, we though many are one body, for we all partake of the
one loaf." I am saddened to learn that one of our Latino children
cannot make her first Communion with us because she and her family
have been recently deported. I make my own a statement from Bishop
Loverde's letter Immigration
and Our Common Destiny (PDF): "We must go beyond an enforcement-only
approach by examining and addressing the root causes of migration."
(See the Arlington Diocesan website for full statement). May the Eucharist
strengthen our realization of Christ's presence and our call to solidarity
as one body of the Lord.
Bishop Loverde has asked all parishes to take up a collection for
the victims of the cyclone in Myanmar and the earthquake in China.
He quotes Pope Benedict on his recent visit "America has traditionally
shown herself generous in meeting immediate human needs
"
In that spirit, Bishop Loverde and I ask you to give generously to
the second collection next weekend.
Feel the Spirit,
Gerry Creedon
PS. We need more volunteers from St. Charles to participate in VOICE,
(Northern) Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement.
This is a community organizing effort of Christians, Jews and Muslims
of the region to combat injustice, especially in the areas of housing
and immigration. Call Marisa Vertrees 703-527-5500 at the Parish Office.
