Pentecost Sunday
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Mother's Day falls on Pentecost. Perhaps there is a message in that.
Our images of God tend to be patriarchal. yet Jesus lamented, "Jerusalem,
I would have gathered you as a mother hen would gather her chickens
under her wing". In the scriptures the Spirit, anima Christi, is
often pictured as feminine; "The spirit will blow where she will".
So I saw nothing out of the ordinary when the theme for Sister Benedict's
Anniversary was; "celebrate her spirit!" On Mother's day let
us recognize the role our mothers play in forming our experience of
faith in God's love.
Mother- love reaches out to Africa when we buy our mothers a flower
to support caregivers in Kenya. Throughout the year we support mothers
and children through our own non-profit, Borromeo Housing.
"Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and kindle
in them the fire of your love"

Gerry Creedon
