6th Sunday of Easter
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
The visit of Pope Benedict was an inspiring call to a renewal of faith
and hope. As I heard him, he emphasized two very significant themes;
the need for healing within the church and the responsibility to welcome
the stranger and the immigrant.
The call to healing brings with it the duty to protect and value our
children and youth. I am happy our diocese and parish has strict policies
in place for protection. The recent sacrament of Confirmation, when
44 young people took a step toward a more adult faith, was an occasion
for families and parish to appreciate and celebrate the hope our young
people bring to us a for a future for St. Charles that is vibrant and
joy filled. I hope all our youth continue with their catechesis and
their involvement with programs such as Way and On the Way. I salute
our catechists and teachers.
The call to welcome the immigrant is especially poignant. Just this
past week I heard about a candidate for First Communion who was deported
to Latin America. In a situation where our country needs comprehensive
immigration reform, enforcement and deportation are surely not the answer
or remedy.
Thanks to all who made our Springfest such a glorious celebration of
Sr. Benedict's 35 years' engagement with St Charles School. She embodies
the values proposed by our Pope in her welcoming, reconciling leadership
and in her care for children.
Mark down May 3rd for our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta.
Feel the Spirit!

Gerry Creedon
P.S. Come join Fr. Rocco Popoulo and myself for a Conversation With
