3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This week has been designated Catholic Schools' Week. I would like it to be
a time we celebrate our own St Charles School. Sr. Benedict has served our school
as a teacher and principal for many decades. She will complete her term as school
principal in June. I am delighted that she will continue with St. Charles Parish
in the area of pastoral care, especially for the sick and the elderly. She leaves
us a legacy of leadership in education and care for children. Our greatest expression
of appreciation for her extraordinary ministry will be our community's ongoing
support to St Charles School. In my experience of schools throughout the diocese,
I place our school first. Why? Our children have a sense of family and belonging
that helps them learn and grow. Our teachers are the best! They combine academic
skills with enthusiasm for their work. Finally our school prepares children
to live and work in a diverse world with tolerance and respect. Come and visit
our school today or during the week and decide to enroll your children with
us.
On February 3rd at 2pm, Latinos Unidos de San Carlos are hosting a convening
of lawyers with an interest in serving our immigrant community. We especially
welcome those wishing to do pro-bono community service.
On February 2nd, St. Charles hosts our Diocesan Peace and Justice Conference,
"Paths to Peace; Conflict Resolution and Development" with Hedley
Abernathy from Catholic Relief Services and our own Fr. Clement (who is also
a GMU graduate student). Come join us and learn how to be a peace-maker.
Feel the Spirit!

Gerry Creedon

to help make St. Charles events available at the parish and online. Our next
meeting will be held in the parish library on Jan. 31st, at 7pm. For more information
contact Marisa Vertrees, mvertrees@stcharleschurch.org, in the parish office.

ST. CHARLES SCHOOL NEWS
Under the guidance of the Office of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Arlington,
a search committee has been formed to ensure that a viable candidate is found
to assume the role of principal of Saint Charles School for the coming school
year. The committee is comprised of current and former school parents, a teacher
representative, a member of the parish staff, a public school principal, and
representatives of the Board of Regents, all under the guidance of the pastor.
The position will be advertised and candidates will submit resumes for review.
The committee will interview viable candidates and the applicant deemed to be
the best fit for the school and parish community will be hired. It is essential
that this process be completed in a timely manner so that the transition to
new leadership will be as smooth as possible. As we approach Catholic Schools
Week (January 27-February2), we keep in mind the theme "Catholic Schools
Light the Way." It is the utmost concern of the committee that the needs
of other students, parents, and members of the parish are served through this
process. We know that your prayers will light our way as we seek to continue
the tradition of excellent leadership at St. Charles School.
ASH WEDNESDAY SENIOR TEA & LUNCH WITH OUR PASTOR
We invite you to attend the noon Mass on Ash Wednesday 2/6 and to join Fr. Creedon
