24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

I invite you to join me at St Anthony's next Saturday for our fourth Annual Diocesan Peace and Justice Conference on "The many faces of our human family; a Catholic perspective on immigration" The keynote will be given by Cardinal McCarrick. See bulletin for details.
Next weekend we celebrate the Ministries Fair. This is a time to learn more about the programs of the parish. Come and see where you may participate. You are welcome to volunteer. I am a strong believer in full employment, especially in the mission of our church. All of us have a gift to offer.

Feel the spirit.
Rev. Gerry Creedon

ALGEBRA TEACHER
St. Charles School is in need of a part-time Algebra teacher for grades 7and 8. If you have a background in Math and can work just an hour and a half a day or if you know someone who may be interested, please contact Linda Lacot at 703-527-0608 for more information.

SEEKERS DISCUSSION GROUP
Are you interested in exploring Catholicism within the context of a small discussion group? This group was initiated by a non-Catholic who is interested in exploring and is hoping there are others like her. The group will meet for 6 weeks beginning the week of October 1st, probably meeting at 7pm on a weeknight at St. Charles. But first, we have to see who is interested. This 6-week group does not take the place of our regular Catholic Inquiry sessions which take place about every other week. Catholic Inquiry is an ongoing discussion for those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. The 6-week small discussion group is different in that it is geared towards those who seek a bit more structure. Specifically, this group will read and discuss a short article related to Catholicism each week for 6 weeks. Please call Michelle Miller, Director of Adult Faith Formation, at the Parish Office at 703-527-5500 x115 or email her at adultfaith@stcharleschurch.org if you have any questions or would like to consider joining the group.

REMINDER TO LITURGY MINISTERS
Ushers, Sacristans, Mass Reps and Counters who signed up to meet with Mike Doyle and Tricia Clark this weekend are reminded that the meeting is in the parish library (next to the office) at 3pm this Sunday. The agenda will deal with specific issues related to custody of all funds donated by parishioners at Masses but will also include a general discussion of Usher duties and your thoughts on how to improve communications for this vital parish ministry. Our plan is to limit this meeting to one hour.

ST. CHARLES WEBSITE UPDATED FOR AUTUMN
Your parish website, www.StCharelsChurch.org, is ready for fall with updated content including this month's highlighted events, the celebrant's schedule, new volunteer opportunities and an online survey for interfaith couples. Check out the latest news next time you're at a computer and keep connected to your parish throughout the week.

SOCIAL JUSTICE EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Are you looking for a way to become more involved in the Parish? Do you have an interest in social justice issues? If so, we invite you to come to the Social Justice Education Committee meeting on Thursday, September 20th at 7:00pm in the Parish Library. We are looking for volunteers to assist in organizing educational programs with a social justice focus. This could include facilitating a small faith group this fall, organizing an alternative gift fair, or arranging guest speakers for the Lenten Soup Supper series. For more information, contact Kristin Young at Kristin_young@att.net or Marisa Vertrees at mvertrees@stcharleschurch.org.
