22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
This Labor Day we ask God's blessings on all work. We pray that the
work of the parish will serve to promote the Kingdom.
Northern Virginia has been debating the issue of immigration, especially
in the light of the Federal Government's refusal to enact immigration
reform. On Labor Day we need to attend to the US Catholic Bishops call
'To welcome the stranger" especially in the workplace. Workers
who are immigrants and refugees, especially those without documents
are liable to exploitation and abuse. This problem is as old as Pharaoh.
"The Egyptians dreaded the Israelites and reduced them to cruel
slavery, making life bitter for them with hard work in mortar and brick
and all kinds of field work- the whole cruel fate of slaves". Exodus
1; 13- 14.
May we as Catholics stay true our tradition of respect for the rights
of all workers.
As we approach the anniversary of 9/11, our parish invites you to
join our Interfaith Committee in the Unity Walk on September 9. See
their Website for details.
Shalom, Salaam. Paz, Peace.

Gerry Creedon

ST. CHARLES SCHOOL NEWS
Dear Friends in Christ,
You are hearing our "Cry" for paper and you are filling our
cupboard. During the 2nd semester, if supply is down, I will "Cry"
again. Thank You!
However, although we have received some generous checks which lifted
my heart tremendously, money will always be an issue to provide my "special
kids" with a Catholic Education. I wish that those of you who participated
by monetary means could have witnessed one of our 8th graders who will
return because of your outstanding generosity. I was the recipient of
her joy and tears and I pass it on to you. My hope is to have more moments
like this to share with all of you. Remember, the need goes on. No amount
is too large or too small. Please be assured of our daily love and prayers
for your commitment to my children and to Catholic Education.
The words of President Bush to members of the NCEA (National Catholic
Educational Association) in May were interesting. "One thing is
for certain, if you're interested in educational excellence, you can
look at the Catholic Schools in the United States of America, because
they provide it - and for that, this country is grateful."
Feel the Spirit! Amen, Alleluia!
Sister Benedict, O.S. B.
HAITI SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
Haiti sponsorship program - we have almost reached our goal! If you
have already sponsored a child for this year, THANK YOU! If you haven't
yet renewed your sponsorship, or are interested in becoming a new sponsor,
we still have several children who need godparents. $100 will pay for
one school year, and $50 will support our important lunch program. Sign
up forms are available by the Church doors - you can mail them or drop
them by the rectory. Help us make this a great school year for our little
Haitian brothers and sisters! Contact Elise and Marc Tessier, the_two_french@yahoo.com,
or Paul Pierrot, pameseg22@yahoo.com.
INTERFAITH FAMILIES SURVEY
The St. Charles Borromeo Interfaith Committee wants to learn more information
about interfaith families in the St. Charles congregation, how satisfied
they are with the parish and what more St. Charles can do to minister
to them. To this end, the committee has devised a questionnaire which
will be available at the weekend Masses on September 8-9. If you are
in an interreligios marriage, or other committed relationship, please
stop at the entrance to the church to pick up a questionnaire. This
questionnaire will also be available on the parish web site, www.stcharleschurch.org.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Thanks to American Realty Group Helping
Buyers, Sellers, Renters over 25 years for his support.
FILM SHOWING ON SEPT 15
St. Charles Borromeo invites you to attend the DC Metro region debut
of "The Sugar Babies", a documentary by Claudia Chiesi, on
the plight of the children of agricultural workers in the sugar industry
of the Dominican Republic. The film will be shown at 2pm on Saturday,
Sept. 15, in Benedict Hall, and is followed by a discussion with the
filmmaker.

(Pentium 3 or higher) that are in good condition, we will collect and
distribute them to refugee children in need in Northern Virginia. Contact
Caroline for more information at 703-841-3871.
