14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

Fr. Jim Sheehan, a priest from the Archdiocese of Newark, will be in residence with us at St. Charles until July 24. He will pursue research in canon law at Catholic University and will assist the parish when he is available.

Fr. Charles Ukwe returns in July to stay with us for about three months while he assists with the Marriage Tribunal of the Diocese. He will offer his services to the parish as available.

I am very happy to have their assistance in addition to the outstanding priestly support from my associate Fr. Jack O Hara and from our resident priests; Fr. Rich Mullins, Fr. Clement Aapengnuo.

Each of us brings to the people of St. Charles our own unique gifts and experience and are in turn blessed by the people and staff of this dynamic parish.

With Summer blessings,
Rev. Gerry Creedon

We are very fortunate to have benefited from the generosity of so many. Through this generosity and hard work, we were able to raise funds for our Parish Center! Our community is very fortunate to have such wonderful generous and caring people. Congratulations to all!!!

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Thanks to Philip A. Gentry, DDS, FAGD Jeanette Coutin-Gentry, DDS (SMILE) for their Support.

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS
Since many of the families we serve through our Food Pantry have their children at home during the summer, they are experiencing an increase in their need for food. We are currently low on the following items: peanut butter, jelly, cold cereal, soup, canned green beans, corn and small bags of rice. We can especially use juice boxes for our homeless population. Thank you and God bless you for your continued generosity.

WHAT ARE YOUR NEIGHBORS READING?
Got a great book recommendation for Catholics to read at the beach? Or maybe you're looking for some suggestions? Visit the parish website, www.StCharlesChurch.org, this week to submit your ideas and to see what others have to say. While you're there, check out the celebrant's schedule so you can see when your favorite priest is saying Mass during July and August.

IN SEARCH OF DEVELOPMENT TALENT
St. Charles is forming a small Development Committee which will focus on income development for the long term health of the parish. We are seeking volunteers who can commit to a monthly meeting and 2-4 hours of work outside the meeting each month over a period of twelve months. Please email Matt Whitaker at Mwhitaker@smartps.com.

AFRICAN CONFLICTS 101: UNDERSTANDING CONFLICT AND MOVING TOWARDS PEACE BUILDING
In this 6 week program our own Fr. Clement will teach us the root causes of several conflicts on the African continent, and how these causes can be addressed. Based on his work on conflict resolution with CRS (Catholic Relief Services) in Northern Ghana, Fr. Clement will talk about how to begin the process of ending conflicts and building peace. Join us Monday evenings in July, starting at 7pm in 103. All are welcome. Registration is free but please let us know you are coming. Contact Marisa Vertrees, 703-527-5500, ext. 126, or email her at mvertrees@stcharleschurch.org.

FUND RAISING FOR HEALTH CENTER
Over the past year, St. Charles has been working with Marymount University's School of Health Professions to open a Nurse Managed Health Center in our Church. This Center will provide many needed services such as health screening, wellness information sessions and physician referrals. Additional funds from local foundations, individuals, corporations and government sources are required in order to fully support the Center. If you are familiar with sources of funding for philanthropic programs, or if you have work and/or social contact in this area, please contact Jo-Ann Duggan in the Parish Office at 703-527-5500, ext 113. Thank you.

PARISH SUPPORT
Due to the July 4 Holiday, this bulletin needed to go to our printer early. No financial data is reported here for the collections on June 30/July 1.

Please remember that you are welcome to drop off your envelopes at the Parish Office before or after your vacations during the summer! Thank you!
