JUNE 30th MULTICULTURAL PARTY
A call for volunteers! We need help serving food and drinks at the bar.
The more hands we have the lighter the load will be. Another way to
volunteer is by giving of your talents. Can you bake a favorite cake
or candy that just too good not to share? Or a special favorite of your
country. Bring it to share with your community! If you would like to
offer your time and talent, please call the Parish Office at 703-527-5500.
PARISH WEBSITE CHANGES DUE TO
SURVEY RESULTS
A few changes are already in place on www.stcharleschurch.org, based
on your input during last month's annual survey. Last week we discussed
some of the results where you asked for more details about events and
faster updates. We've already changed the formatting of calendar highlights
info to make it faster to update on the News and home pages. The News
page will show a month's remaining upcoming events so that the lates
ones stay on top. We're also making the celebrant's schedule available
as a PDF in addition to the current web page. This gives you a printer-friendly
version, and the PDF will be available quickly even when the updated
webpage is still under construction. Remember, keep those suggestions
coming!
OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE COMING TO ST. CHARLES
The International Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima Statue was recently welcomed
into the Diocese of Arlington for fifteen weeks. Check out more information
on Diocesan events at www.arlingtondiocese.org/fatima. Our Parish Family
at St. Charles has been selected to be host parish starting June 30th
until July 5th. We will be planning a celebration during this time and
anyone interested in helping can call Jan Prisco at 703-876-1937.
AFRICAN CONFLICTS 101: UNDERSTANDING CONFLICT AND MOVING TOWARDS
PEACE BUILDING
In this 6 week program our own Fr. Clement will teach us the root causes
of several conflicts on the African continent, and how these causes
can be addressed. Based on his work on conflict resolution with CRS
(Catholic Relief Services) in Northern Ghana, Fr. Clement will talk
about how to begin the process of ending conflicts and building peace.
Join us Monday evenings, starting June 25th, for what promises to be
an enlightening discussion. 7pm in 104. All are welcome. Registration
is free but please let us know you are coming. For Marisa Vertrees,
703-527-5500, ext. 126, mvertrees@stcharleschurch.org
IN SEARCH OF DEVELOPMENT TALENT
St. Charles is forming a small Development Committee which will focus
on income development for the long term health of the parish. We are
seeking volunteers who can commit to a monthly meeting and 2-4 hours
of work outside the meeting each month over a period of twelve months.
If you have experience in development or fundraising, please consider
joining us. If you are interested, please email Matt Whitaker at Mwhitaker@smartps.com.
ST. CHARLES HAS NEW CLOTHING BIN ON PREMISES
The Clothing Recycling Company work in partnership with local charities
(United Health Care, Arlington Street People's Assistance Network and
many others) to provide clothing for the homeless and the needy in the
Washington Metropolitan area. Please consider dropping your unwanted
clothing and linens in the green bin in the parking lot so that they
can be given to those in need.
DONATIONS NEEDED
The Arlington County Child and Family Service needs your help! A small
group of St. Charles parishioners are working on redesigning a playroom
for Family Services and are looking for a few more donations to help
brighten the room. We are in need of new or almost new shelves and toy-sized
storage containers. Donations can be brought to the Parish Office before
June 28 or contact Meg at meggie1982@gmail.com
to arrange a pick-up. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
