7th Sunday of Easter/Ascension
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
We continue to welcome more children to the Lord's table this Easter
season. Our candidates have been well prepared. I thank their parents
and catechists. May all of us join them in renewing our faith in Christ's
presence this season. "Their eyes were opened at the breaking of
the bread".
On June 3, a parishioner of ours, Dr. Stephen Colecchi, Director of
the Office of International Justice and Peace at the US Conference of
Catholic Bishops will join me for Conversation With Creedon
on the Catholic Bishops' Campaigns for Justice; an overview of the principal
projects in the area of the church's social mission in the USA. Please
join us for what promises to be an illuminating experience,
Peace,

Gerry Creedon
P.S. Congrats to St Charles School for an outstanding Band and Vocal
concert last week!

FAMILY SERVICES PROJECT
A few parishioners from St. Charles are working on redesigning a playroom
for Arlington County Child and Family Services and are looking for donations
to help brighten the room. We are in need of new or almost new
children’s books, board games, blocks, or other interactive toys
for ages 1-10. We are looking for new shelves, kid-friendly storage
containers, interior painting materials, Target or Home Depot gift cards,
or any other donations that might help freshen up a playroom.
Everything is appreciated. Donations can be brought to the Parish
Office before June 11th. For more information, contact Meg at:
meggie1982@gmail.com.
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS
PLEASE HELP! Our food Pantry is extremely low on the following
items: pancake mix/syrup, canned vegetables, soup, peanut butter/jelly,
pasta and sauce, powdered/canned milk as well as the pop top cans of
meats/tuna, fruit and energy/granola bars. On behalf of the many
people we are able to help with food and gift cards, we would like to
thank you for your generous donations.
Caring for God's Creation Today's Psalm celebrates all
of creation and we pray to the Lord to renew the face of the Earth.
We too can join this celebration by acting as faithful stewards of this
Earth that feeds, clothes, and shelters us and all peoples. Thanks
to a generous donation, St. Charles will begin changing many of our lights
to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), which use far less energy,
and last far longer, than traditional light bulbs. If every American
home replaced just one light bulb with an energy efficient CFL, we would
save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and
prevent greenhouse gasses equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000
cars.

faith is Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30pm in the Upper Room. Join us

WHY PRO-LIFE?
Please join the St. Charles Respect Life Committee Sunday evenings in
June for a four-part lecture series on the Church’s teachings
on life issues. Each speaker is an expert on this important subject,
and our own Father Mullins will moderate. Refreshments and copies
of John Paul II’s encyclical letter Evangelium Vitae,
The Gospel of Life, will be provided. Each lecture will start
at 7:30pm in the Upper Room, on June 3, 10, 17 and 24. Questions
are especially welcome!
DIVINE MERCY
On the weekend of June 23rd, the Icon of Divine Mercy will be visiting
our parish. This particular image is a replica of the icon of
Divine Mercy displayed in Krakow, Poland where John Paul II dedicated
the whole world to Divine Mercy. This icon will remain with us
for one week, giving us the unique opportunity to pray together as a
parish for the healing of families. Accompanying the icon, will
be five smaller replicas of the icon. These replicas will go to
five families in our parish who have agreed to pray one rosary and one
Divine Mercy chaplet each day that the icon remains in their possession.
Stay tuned for more details.
VIRGIN STATUE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA Bishop Loverde
cordially invites all diocesan parishes, schools and organizations to
join him in a special evening of prayer to honor Mary, Mother of God,
on Thursday, May 31, at 7pm at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington.
A special procession to welcome the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue
of Our Lady of Fatima will begin the service. The ceremony will
also include sung Marian vespers, Recitation of the Rosary, and exposition
of the Blessed Sacrament. Bishop Loverde encourages the youth
of the diocese to attend, specifically first communicants and confirmandi.
