4th Sunday of Easter
FROM THE PASTOR
I invite you to join us this Sunday at 7:30pm in Benedict Hall for
an evening of prayer, reflection and dialogue in light of the Blacksburg
tragedy. How do we grieve? What do we learn?
The following Sunday, May 6, same time, same place, join me for
our Conversation With Creedon series. That night we will
focus on "Young Adults and the Catholic Church: Problem or Opportunity?"
Don't forget our parish celebration of Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, May
5. Always a good time.
We welcome 53 of our teens to our adult community as they recently celebrated
the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Feel the Spirit!

of Dialogue and Prayer
Sunday, April 29, 2007 7:30pm – Benedict Hall
Refreshments Provided - All Are Welcome
Making sense of the tragedy of violence and suffering, like that endured
within the VA Tech community, seems impossible. And yet, it is
within the company of each other that we can mourn, heal, and learn.
Join our Pastor Fr. Gerry Creedon in an evening of reflection, sharing,
and prayer where all voices are heard and respected.
INFANT BAPTISMAL PREPARATION

Refreshments Provided – All Are Welcome
Young Adults and the Catholic Church: Problem or Opportunity?
In a recent Catholic News Service article, the lack of participation
of Catholics in their 20s and 30s was cited as a serious concern by
those Catholics surveyed in a recent Gallup poll. The survey results
confirmed findings that younger Catholics tend to have a looser, more
tenuous relationship with the Church than their older counterparts.
Come and hear what some younger Catholics at St. Chares, including some
newly initiated, have to say about their faith and participation within
the Catholic tradition. Come and share your own experience.
Fr. Gerry Creedon will lead the panel discussion and all are welcome.
"MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

you're a first-time visitor or the site is your homepage or you're somewhere
in between, take our anonymous survey next time you are online.

REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK
On the Fourth Sunday of Easter, the Acts of
the Apostles shows us Paul and Barnabas and the turmoil they
faced.. In a brief, but powerful story from John's Gospel,
Jesus offers comfort to those who follow him: “My sheep hear my
voice; I know them, and they follow me."
This is potentially a powerful week for entering into how available
Jesus is for us. He promises to be with us, to make us one with him,
even to make his home in us. The opportunity we have this week is to
accept this offer of deepening our relationship with our Lord. We do
this by beginning each day focusing our first thoughts of the day in
a simple recognition that we are not alone: "Thank you for this
day, Lord. I know you want to stay close to me, to guide me and support
me today. I need some real strength and courage to face some of the
challenges of this day. Help me to keep connecting with you throughout
this day, to remember your presence and love." This 20 second prayer
will open our day to a Lord who invites us surrender our troubles to
him.
We are rejoicing in this Easter season and asking God to shower us
with the light of salvation that John's Gospel refers to so often. Even
now, weeks after Easter, we rejoice!
