Fifth Sunday of Lent
FROM THE PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
On April Fool's Day I am reminded
of the foolishness of God. The story of the Prodigal Son, which has
been the subject of our Lenten Reflection booklet, depicts the Father
as lavish, generous, and perhaps foolish with his love, acceptance and
forgiveness. Sometimes it is hard to believe that our God can be so
gracious. A penitent once asked of me; "Can God continue to be
patient with me?" Behind this question about God are often doubts
about ourselves and our own capacity to accept forgiveness. I often
think those doubts are the reason for the Catholic sacrament of reconciliation.
The rite of penance, especially within the context of a communal service,
is designed to bring home to us the reality of God's grace and mercy.
Come and participate in the Sacrament of God's Forgiveness on Monday
April 2 at 7:30pm.
I also invite you on this Sunday evening to Benedict Hall at 7pm for
a Conversation on "Saving the Earth" with a Wilson scholar
who will reflect on the human and ethical dimensions of climate change.
Let us be fools for Christ's sake,

Gerry Creedon

CONVERSATIONS WITH CREEDON
April 1, 7pm - Benedict Hall
Refreshments Provided - All Are Welcome
Climate Change is being recognized by scientists, religious leaders,
and a growing number of U.S. politicians as one of the most critical
crises facing humanity and the planet. Join Pat Phibbs, a member of
the St. Charles Advocacy Network, and James Fleming, a professor of
science, technology, and society at Colby College. Professor Fleming
is currently working with the Woodrow Wilson Center's Environmental
Change and Security Program. He will discuss the implications of climate
change, effects it could have on the poorest people on our planet, resource
conflicts it could cause, ethical questions raised by some proposed
solutions, and participants will discuss what that means in light of
Catholic teachings on this issue.

Parish library? Please return or sign it out. Thanks!
PENNY DONATIONS ADD UP ONLINE
Donating a penny may not sound like much until you deal with the Internet.
An innovative organization is raising money for charities across the
U.S., including Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities in Arlington,
and the Save Dafur Coalition. Visit www.goodsearch.com and use this
"search engine" exactly as you would use Google, Yahoo, or
any other search engine. The only difference is that, before you search,
you designate a charity of your choice. The charity receives, on average,
a penny for every search you do.
It adds up. The Save Dafur Coalition has received $1,641 since GoodSearch
was launched in 2005. Catholic Relief Services, however, has only raised
$124 during the same period. Especially during Lent, in addition to
the dollars we're placing in our CRS Rice Bowls, when we search online
using www.goodsearch.com we
can support these organizations in other ways to!
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS
Our Food Pantry is in need of regular size (15-20oz) boxes of cereal
as well as jelly, canned or powdered milk and one pound boxes of spaghetti.
We can always use the small, self-opening cans of tuna, sausages, precooked
pasta for our homeless population. Thank you for your response to our
request for grocery store gift cards, they are greatly appreciated.
SUPPORT AFAC - SHOP WHOLE FOODS
On Wednesday, April 4th, Whole Foods in Clarendon will be donating 5%
of your purchases to the Arlington Food Assistance Center as long as
you use a coupon which is available on the tables in the church entrances.
Please support AFAC which helps supplement the food budget of over 600
local families weekly.
PARISH SUPPORT
- Last Week's Collection (Sunday March 25, 2007) was $24,236.17.
- Our Tithe of $2,229.73 was for our sister parishes in Haiti.
- This Week's Tithe (Palm Sunday) is for Project Lazarus.
- This Week's 2nd Collection is for our Building Fund.
- Holy Thursday's Collection is for Unity Healthcare.
- Good Friday's Collection is for the Holy Land Shrines.
