Seventh Sunday, Ordinary Time
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
Ash Wednesday, Feb. 21, begins the Lenten season. It is the church's
springtime, a period of preparation for the new life of Easter. We accompany
our candidates for Easter sacraments through prayer and fasting.
The Rice Bowl Project associates our fasting with support for sustainable
development for the world's poor. On Tuesday you are welcome to our
parish Lenten Soup Suppers, eating less
that others may eat. There will also be presentations on Lenten themes.
On Fridays, I recommend that you make the prayers of the Rice Bowl and
a lesser meal part of your family's Lenten discipline. Twenty-five percent
of the money donated through rice bowl will assist our
parish's Africa Outreach, the remaining support Catholic Relief
Services.
Please check the Lenten Schedule for other
events that will enrich your celebration,
"Repent and believe the good news."

RULES OF FAST AND ABSTINENCE
Fasting - has to do with the amount of food one eats on particular days.
For Catholics 18-60, this means one meal on a given day with 2 smaller
meals taken if needed for strength and is observed on Ash Wednesday
and Good Friday. Fasting can be spiritual by: prepares us for a feast,
promotes self-discipline, supports one's prayers, we can give what we
save to the poor. Abstinence - has to do with the kinds of food denied
oneself. Again, can give what you save to the poor. Catholics 18-60
abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and the Fridays of
Lent. All our Lenten practices are to draw us into the reflection of
our baptism, personal conversion, penance, and the suffering, death,
and resurrection of Jesus.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
During Lent, Stations of the Cross will be held in English each Thursday
at 7pm and in Spanish each Friday at 7:30pm.

"Phil 1:2. On behalf
of all the recipients of our Giving Tree, and everyone involved in the
program, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation and thanks
to the St. Charles parishioners for your overwhelming generosity this

GROCERY STORE GIFT CARDS NEEDED
