Third Sunday of Advent
FROM OUR PASTOR
It is a time for giving and forgiving! To counter the cultural temptation
to turn the season into a time for consumerism, and its attendant ills,
materialism and selfishness, the Church offers us the gentle call of
the Advent season. Make ready the way of the Lord by giving and forgiving.
John the Baptist challenges us to give way a coat if we have two. The
Giving Tree stands as a beloved parish symbol of that theme.
I want to thank all of you who have made the needs of our disadvantaged
neighbors part of your Christmas shopping.
I also thank you for listening to this weekend's call to stewardship.
Once a year we ask you to consider your habit of giving to St. Charles
through the offertory program. Circumstances may have changed in your
life over the past year that may call you to adjust your level of generosity,
among the many ways to reach out to others that come to your doorstep.
I know that you will consider your parish community as a priority. We
are a community that is generous in our outreach. Your generosity empowers
us to do more.
Monday the 18th at 7:30 pm we will focus on the forgiving aspect of
Advent. Even more than material baggage, our sins can weigh us down.
Let us welcome the Prince of Peace into our houses by ridding ourselves
of every trespass and grudge though the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
With Advent hope,

Gerry Creedon

THE 10TH ANNUAL ST. CHARLES
SIMBANG GABI
Come and join us for this wonderful Christmas tradition of nine novena
Masses from Dec. 16 to 24 that ushers in the birth of Christ. See why
people have been waking up on cold December mornings to come to mass
at 5am -yes, 5am- for the past 10 years. A 400- year old tradition in
the Philippines, the masses are in English-with a few carols and prayers
in Tagalog. But no matter the language of your birth, when we all sing
and pray from our hearts, we will all realize how truly universal our
faith is. We hope to see you there!
"BREAKFAST WITH SANTA" A BIG SUCCESS
On behalf of Sr. Benedict and the school faculty and staff, the St.
Charles School Board of Regents thanks all parishioners for your outstanding
participation in "Breakfast with Santa." Over 600 pancakes
were consumed, 180 photos with Santa taken and almost $3,000 raised
for the school faculty and staff Christmas bonus fund. Your support
is very much appreciated. We also are most grateful to Santa and Mrs.
Claus for spending the morning with us and all of the volunteers who
worked so hard to make this event such a great success. Finally, congratulations
to Michael Mengistab, the winner of the Special Edition iPod nano red!
