Second Sunday of Advent
FROM OUR PASTOR
Let us simplify our lives through prayer and giving. Our Giving Tree
stands in contrast to the self pre-occupation that surrounds us this
weekend we give to the poor of our region through Catholic Charities
Christmas Collection. Next weekend we are invited to consider our weekly
church giving to our community of St. Charles and all of its varied
ministries. Let us transform a season of consumerism into a time of
shedding our surplus to provide a welcome among us for Emanuel, who
came among us as a homeless child.
In our Advent Reconciliation/ Confession on Dec 18 we shed another
burden, the baggage of our sinfulness.
Come join us in another form of giving; forgiving, May Christ find
a dwelling among us this season,
Gerry Creedon

PARISH OFFERTORY PROGRAM WEEKEND
You will soon receive an Offertory Program brochure that was mailed
to each household. The brochure contains information regarding the nature
of the Parish Offertory Program, a profile of the current giving levels
and the budget needs of our parish, along with proposed financial recommendations
that strive to be fair to all. Please make a conscious effort to examine
your spending priorities, see where our parish is currently placed within
them, then adjust your priorities as necessary based on our obligation
to support the work of the Lord. At Mass next weekend, you will receive
a commitment card and asked to indicate your weekly offertory contribution.
Thank you for your continued generosity.

GIVING TREE
Now is the time to take a tag or two or more from our Christmas Giving
Tree in the Church. During Advent, we remember those less fortunate
and connect with those in need. The gifts you buy help the homeless,
immigrants and families in crisis who are unable to give their families
some of the joy of Christmas. Please attach the tag and return (wrapped
or unwrapped) gifts to the Church and place them under the Tree or at
the Parish Office no later than Dec 16th. Gifts will be distributed
on Dec 17th. Cash & check donations payable to "St. Charles
Church" need to be marked for the Giving Tree and left at the Parish
Office. All donations are tax deductible, call Maria for receipt. To
volunteer or questions, call Maria at 703-628-6251, mariamcahron@yahoo.com.
PREPARING TO SAY GOOD BYE TO FR. CHARLES

All Are Welcome!
Folks are already asking what they can give Fr. Charles as a way to
say "thank you". Bottom line
cash or check (made out
to Fr. Charles or St. Charles) is always a winner.
By the way, due to your generosity, he has enough computers! No more
are needed. Thank you!

THE 10TH ANNUAL ST. CHARLES
SIMBANG GABI
Come and join us for this wonderful Christmas tradition of nine novena
Masses from Dec. 16 to 24 that ushers in the birth of Christ. See why
people have been waking up on cold December mornings to come to mass
at 5am -yes, 5am- for the past 10 years. A 400- year old tradition in
the Philippines, the masses are in English-with a few carols and prayers
in Tagalog. But no matter the language of your birth, when we all sing
and pray from our hearts, we will all realize how truly universal our
faith is. We hope to see you there!
