Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite feasts, not just the food. Exile and hospitality are so much part of the American experience. The pilgrims bring back memories of Exodus, Passover, and Eucharist. We celebrate all our journeys to freedom and hope. Let us be renewed in our effort to build one nation of indigenous people and exiles more simply it is an occasion to say "Thank you."
I am grateful for St. Charles. I rest more secure knowing that at this time of feasting we are sharing turkeys with those who have an empty table!
Gerry Creedon

PREPARING TO SAY GOOD BYE TO FR. CHARLES
Fr. Charles Ukwe, OP will be heading back to Nigeria at the end of Dec. So let's celebrate! On Sat Dec 16 at 6:30pm, all are invited to the gym as the children of the parish reenact the "Posada." A reception to honor Fr. Charles will follow at 7:30pm. Sunday, Dec 17 we will honor Fr. Charles after all of the Sunday Masses. All are welcome to any and all events!
(Folks are already asking what they can give Fr. Charles as a way to say "thank you". Bottom line…cash or check (made out to Fr. Charles or St. Charles) is always a winner).

COMPUTERS FOR FR. CHARLES
Are you upgrading your desktop or laptop computer before the end of the year? Fr. Charles will be teaching in a seminary in Nigeria and they could use used computers if they are Pentium II & Higher CPUs. Drop off your computers to the Parish Office with a note attached as to how we can reach you if we have any questions. Thanks!

GIVING TREE
Now is the time to take a tag or two or more from our Christmas Giving Tree in the Church beginning Nov 26. Feel free to grab tags for friends & colleagues too! During Advent, we remember those less fortunate and connect with those in need. The gifts you buy help the homeless, immigrants and families in crisis who are unable to give their families some of the joy of Christmas. Please attach the tag and return (wrapped or unwrapped) gifts to the Church and place them under the Tree or at the Parish Office no later than Dec 16th. Gifts will be distributed on Dec 17th. Cash & check donations payable to "St. Charles Church" need to be marked for the Giving Tree and left at the Parish Office. All donations are tax deductible. Call Maria for receipt. To volunteer or questions, call Maria McAhron at 703-628-6251, mail mariamcahron@yahoo.com. THANK YOU!

CALLING ALL TURKEYS!
After all Masses this weekend we will be collecting from generous people to feed 25 families on Thanksgiving. You can donate cash or time. Make checks to "St. Charles Church" or call 703-525-6872 to help prepare the turkeys and trimmings on Wed, Nov 22nd.

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS THANKSGIVING
It's that time of the year and the St. Charles Community is gearing up for Thanksgiving. Thanks to Fran Hobbs and her wonderful group of volunteers, 25 families will receive completely cooked Thanksgiving Dinners. Meanwhile, the Food Pantry is in need of Thanksgiving food to help out other families in our area. Please bring in canned sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn, gravy, stuffing, and other NON-PERISHABLE FOOD items. We are always overwhelmed with the generosity of the St. Charles community and thank you for all you do to help those in need.

WORLD AIDS DAY-EDUCATION AND EVENTS
On Sun Dec 3rd the Ministry will be selling hand knit scarves to support the Riara AIDS Project after the 9 & 11am masses. Come quickly to get your scarf - supplies are limited and they will make great Christmas gifts! After the 6pm mass, Father Creedon will host Conversations with Creedon with Susan Weissert to continue discussions about AIDS in our world. 7pm in Benedict Hall.

USED VEHICLE NEEDED
Although we usually don't handle used vehicle, we have an unusual and urgent need. A mother of 5 is in desperate need, including a child with special needs and doctors' visits. Please contact Jo-Ann Duggan, Social Services Coordinator here at St. Charles. Thank you!

PRO-LIFE
National Night of Prayer for Life at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington, from 9pm, Fri Dec 8, to 1am on Sat Dec 9. Come for all or part of the service and join with Catholics across four time zones in a national unity of Eucharistic adoration and prayer for an end to abortion. For information, call 703-379-0485.

HAITI
Each year, our Haiti godparents have a chance to write Christmas cards for your students in Cavaillon and Gros Marin. We will be set up for this on Sun Dec 3rd, after the 7:30, 9 and 11am Masses. Or drop off at Parish Office.
