Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,

Pope Benedict said, "In dialogue with Christians of various churches, we need to commit ourselves to caring for the created world, without squandering its resources, and sharing them in a cooperative way." The topic Care for Creation is the focus of the Third Annual Peace and Justice Conference of the Arlington Diocese on Saturday Sept 30 at St Francis in Triangle. Come and join us. The event begins with Mass at 8:45am. Car pools are available at St Charles parking lot before 8 am.

All are urged to participate in this weekend's Ministry & Volunteer Fair. Our Parish Mission Statement proclaims: "We call on all to offer their unique gifts in building the Reign of God's love." Come to the Parish center and learn about various programs, and how you may volunteer.

Mark your calendars for next Sunday's Conversation with Creedon at 7pm on the topic "Faith and Persons with Disabilities."

Feel the Spirit!
Rev. Gerry Creedon

SUPPORT ST.CHARLES SCHOOL
It's time to re-designate your favorite parish school as the recipient of donations from your favorite local store! St. Charles participates with Giant Bonus Bucks #2192, and Harris Teeter "Together in Education" #4745. Both stores require you to re-designate NOW! Purchases made from Land's End can also be "linked" to the school using #9000-4883-6. Retail rebate programs like these earn cash for our school (over $1500 last year!) and do not cost you a cent! Please remember St. Charles School in upcoming United Way and Combined Federal Campaigns by designating #8743 for your donations. As always, thank you for your continuing support of our Parish School!

OKTOBERFEST - OCT 21
It's that time of year again, Oktoberfest is only 4 weeks away and we want to invite you all to participate.

MINISTRY & VOLUNTEER FAIR TODAY AFTER ALL MASSES!
Come & See!

FOOD PANTRY
The Pantry needs the following items: canned green vegetables, canned chunky soups, canned fruit, canned tuna, canned pasta such as ravioli, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, muffin/pancake mix, breakfast bars, cereal, small individual size packs of cookies crackers and dried fruit. We do need smaller sized packaging, 1-pound cans or 16-ounce boxes…economy sized are too big to pack effectively. We also need plain wholesome food, no condiments, spices or exotic tastes needed. In addition, the Food Pantry at St. Charles needs a steady supply of paper grocery bags with handles, such as those from Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter, or Whole Foods Market. Thanks for your continued and overwhelming generosity!

MOVIE NIGHT
The Advocacy Committee at St. Charles will be showing "An Inconvenient Truth" on October 4th. The movie will be showing at 7pm in Benedict Hall. Refreshments will be served before and after. Come to the film and for discussion afterwords.

SENIOR INFORMATION FAIR
On Saturday, October 28 from 9:30-11:30am Arlington County will sponsor a FREE Senior Information Fair at St. Charles in Benedict Hall. Seniors, Caregivers, Families and Friends ~ All are welcome!

PARISH SUPPORT

  • Last Week's Collection (Sunday, September 17, 2006) was $25,277.50
  • Last Week's Tithe of $$2,325.53 was for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).
  • This Week's Tithe is for our Sister Parishes in Haiti.
  • This Week's 2nd Collection is for the Catholic University.
  • Next Week's Tithe is for Catholics for Housing (CFH). CFH makes decent housing a possibility for many of the low-income workers in our community. Your tithe supports their efforts.
  • Next Week's 2nd Collection is for the Building Fund/Debt Reduction. Your contribution to our Building Fund will help to enable the Parish to reduce the debt to the Diocese for our Parish Community Center. It also will help us to maintain and repair our aging facilities.

St. Charles Marriage Ministry
Wine & Cheese Social
Saturday, September 30, 6pm in Benedict Hall

For those interested in…..

Engaged Couple Mentoring Program
St. Charles's own Couple Mentoring Program (CMP), an integral part of the parish's Pre-Cana program, has been shepherding engaged couples on their journey towards greater love and commitment to each other and to God for several years now. To celebrate our success in the program - and in building of relationship - we will gather with our "seasoned" Mentors in fellowship and support. If you have been married for at least 3 years and want to have the enriching experience of supporting an engaged couple to prepare for the Sacrament of Matrimony, this may be your calling! Please come and learn more about this ministry and the special couples who are involved! See reverse for more info.

Newlywed Support and Gatherings
For some time now there's been an "open spot" at St. Charles for a special group of parishioners to have their own association: couples newly married (within the past 5 years). This special time of growth in relationship and marital challenge would benefit from the support and fellowship of other newly married couples in our parish. Dubbed NEW CANA, this new group at St. Charles needs a kick-off team to get the ball rolling. All newlywed "graduates" of Catholic Engaged Encounter, Conferences for the Engaged, and the Couple Mentoring Program are most welcome. We look forward to a wonderful fall kickoff get-together!
