Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners,
St. Charles Catholic School opens its doors to a new year of education.
There are spaces available to new students in Kindergarten, 2-4 grades
and 7th grade. Call the School Office at 703-527-0608 and learn more
about this opportunity for academic and spiritual growth.
Tuesday night I was present in two significant parish gatherings; a
Catholic Inquiry session as well as the Adult
Initiation (RCIA) process. Each group had at least 12 participants.
It is a wonderful sign of the vitality of our Catholic tradition and
of our vibrant parish that so many seekers are exploring our faith.
Let us keep them in our prayers as well as realize that we are all teachers
of faith, by what we do, what we say, how we celebrate life in Christ.
This weekend we remember Lazarus At The Gate as we tithe to our emergency
service to neighbors in need.
Peace,
GERRY CREEDON
P.S. Our 2nd
Collection this weekend is for Katrina victims.
DEAR FRIENDS IN CHRIST
God continues to bless my ministry with your outstanding generosity
for my SPECIAL CHILDREN at St. Charles School. The need is great and
your contribution will make a difference. No amount is too large or
too small. Checks may be payable to "St. Charles School Scholarship
Fund". You are the Spirit that keeps us going. Thank you and be
assured of our prayers. It is our intention to act justly to love children
tenderly and walk humbly with our God.
In Him Always,
Sister Benedict, St. Charles School Principal
INFANT BAPTISM PREPARATION
The next infant baptismal preparation meeting will be held on Wednesday,
September 13 in Room 103 of the Parish Center at 7:30pm. Pre-registration
is required. Please call the Parish Office to register or for more information.
LAZARUS AT THE GATE
Many of you may have seen bulletin notices requesting food for our food
pantry as well as grocery store gift cards. You may have also noticed
that the tithe from the first collection on the first Sunday of the
month is given to "Project Lazarus." Have you ever wondered
what happens to the donated food and how the money from the tithe is
distributed? Stop by the table outside Benedict Hall this weekend after
all Masses to find out and to see how you might make a difference in
the lives of those in our community struggling to meet their basic needs.

SENIOR TEA
Our Senior Tea was a huge success on August 15, with our largest attendance
ever! We were so excited to see so many new faces at lunch and hope
our attendance will continue to grow this year. After a relaxing lunch,
we discussed ideas for programs for our future meetings. Mark your calendar
for the next Senior Tea with Father Creedon on November 1, after the
noon Mass.
SMALL FAITH GROUPS FORMING FOR FALL
Over 120 parishioners participated in 6-week small faith groups during
Lent. We are now beginning to form small faith groups that will meet
in the Fall. Most groups will meet for approximately 6 weeks. Most groups
are 6-10 folks. Depending on interest, groups may be formed to reflect
on:
--Sunday Scripture readings from Mass
--Spirituality and Work
--Spirituality of Marriage
--Newlywed faith sharing group
--Raising Faith Filled Kids
--Spirituality and Aging
--Bible Study
Our next step is to secure:
Facilitators: Basically, the leader of the group. Not the teacher or
the expert, just someone to help with communication and keep the group
on track each week. All materials are provided and no experience is
necessary. You can choose to meet in your home, at the parish, or in
another parishioner's home.
Hosts: Are you willing to open your home to a group but would rather
not lead the group? What a beautiful gift of hospitality.
Group Members: Are you interested in joining a group? Let us know.
All are welcome.
If you are interested please contact Michelle Miller, Director of Adult
Faith Formation at adultfaith@stcharleschurch.org
or call her at the Parish Office at 703-527-5500 x115.
